Hey NS!

I recently sat down with Blister Gear Review and recorded a podcast about the plastics we use in ski boots and how this relates to your skiing experience. This is actually part 1 of 2 (it was too long to release as one podcast) and we'll drop the second half next week, which will deal more specifically with topics of flex & damping.

So, if you feel like getting nerdy about ski boots check it out!

This was an amazing podcast and really informative. The reps get into this a little bit but you took it to a whole new level for me. I love my hawx 130s. The Nordica Speedmachine, Pro machine lines are very similar it seems based on build material and quality but i gotta say the fit on the ultra 130s it way better. Any insight into the competition? Does Atomic purchase competitors and do a tear down on what they are up to or am i overthinking the competitive market space for ski boots?

Yeah, I listened to this a few days ago, it's excellent. You interview really well Matt, it sounds like a casual comfortable conversation but is also very informative and goes over bullet points and recaps information.

Thanks, guys! I'm really stoked you are liking it so far. For some reason, I'm always nervous after I do these and fear that I've said something completely wrong and I'll be on record forever haha

This is something we will touch upon in part 2 of the podcast. But short answer is yes- we get all of the relevant competitors and test the shit out of them.

can you explain how the fischer vacuum boots plastic is different from others

Fischer developed this plastic with their plastic supplier, so the exact recipe they are using is rather unknown outside of Fischer but I'm 99% sure it is some type of PU or PU blend. The basic idea about their plastic is that it has a lower melting point so it is easier to shape and form. It does tend to be softer flexing and less abrasion resistant though.

Good god part 2 was great. Anyone who works a shop needs to listen to these. Thanks for sharing all this information with us. Id be curious to try on the Clubsport compared to my HU130s now just to see for myself what you were talking about with the weight and the fit. And i know exactly what you mean about a HV boot feeling soft for someone use to LV boots. its the reason i sold my Speedmachine130s and switched to hawx. I didnt want to wait for the promachine to come out and i like the 300mm bsl of the hawx as well.
