WA Skier Dies...Resort is Blamed

that fucken sucks, same kinda deal at my hill happened a couple weeks back but no one died, some kid bombed our only table and tried a backflip, then me and some friends got in an arguement with the operators/volunteers of the hill and they were trying to tell us that it was the jumps fault he got hurt, we were swearing at them and everything sayin that it was his own fault, none of this shit is dangerous if it is used with proper judgement, but theyre adults who ignorant fucks and are scared about getting sued, if i got hurt really bad trying a corked 9 i wouldnt sue, it was my own fault and im taking all the risk, fucken people these days

the problem is that there are too few people willing to acknowledge blame. It is usually the parents/relatives that sue. I cannot say I blame them, they typically need some sense of closure and want to remember their relatives in a positive light. However, what does bother me is that the courts and legal system as a whole has not been backing the waiver of liablity that is printed on the back of every ticket.

I just think an important step would be to make sure that everyone of you expresses your opinions about suing ski areas to your families, so that way, if something does happen, your families know that you do not wish litigation against the ski area, since often times it is not the person injured/killed that sues, but their families.

I fell terrible that these types of things happen, but as Erich said, it was a lapse in judgement, and that should in no way be blamed on the area.

yeah the thing that sucks is that even though your lift ticket is a waiver and if he was a seasons pass holder he signed a waiver of his rights then too, he can still sue, and in the case of death his parents will probably sue.

Do anything that maybe considered irresponsible or dangerous? This kid screwed up and now he is dead. Do you think that is justified punishment? You are a little piece of shit and you should not talk or write anymore. The result of this terrible tragedy hopefully will not be the loss of the park, but how do you think of that right now. Your thoughts should be with his family and friends. Those are the people who are suffering. I cannot believe you would write that.

SNOQUALMIE PASS, Wash. -- A 19-year-old man was fatally injured Friday afternoon while skiing at Summit Central ski area at this Cascade Mountain pass, a ski area spokesman said.

The man was injured in a bad fall about 3:15 p.m. at Summit Central, which is one of several ski areas in the central Cascades along Interstate 90 east of Seattle.

Guy Lawrence, a spokesman for several Snoqualmie Pass ski areas, confirmed the death.

Ski patrol members reportedly reached the young man quickly, but he was dead by the time an airlift helicopter reached the scene.

The victim reportedly was from east of the Cascades, possibly the Ellensburg area.

An identity was not immediately available Friday evening.

in response to the kid who takes shit a little too close to heart, yes, i think death was a fair punishment, no matter what the situation was the kid was totally askin for it startin 200 ft too high, and 200 ft isnt just a little misjudgment, he was probly already going 20-30 mph when he reached the normal start point, yea i could say i feel sorry for his family and all that bullshit, but i dont, and if i did it wouldnt mean jack anyway, so im gonna say what comes to mind when i read shit like this and laugh my ass off, you know im pretty sure the first thing that came to this kids mind after he hit the jump was 'man im a fuckin idiot' and besides, why does death have to be so sad anyway?

thats to bad that this happened, i feel bad for the kid, but at the same time people have to realize that the mtn isn't to blame, it seems like everytime someone dies in this country by there own accord, the press and others quickly look for a scapegoat or someone else to blame, people have mentioned that the park has warnings and the mtn has you sign waivers, however as seen in the whistler case, these things can be bipassed by almost any attorney, the fact that it occured here in the USA makes a lawsuit even more likely, lawsuits seem to occur wasy to often in todays world cause people are unwilling to take a step back and realize that the socalled victim may have brought their hardship upon themselves, hopefully in this senario people will be able to keep sense about them and resolve this situation without it deterating into a blame game, finally its sad to hear of a fellow skier dieing like this even if it was or was not his fault i feel for his family and hope they all can get through this,

oh yeah and erich or alpentalik, that letter was probably one of the best written peices ive seen, good job

Do you really think this something we all should be doing? Should we be supporting views such as these? Ive skied for a long time, seen a lot of different changesin equipment style and attitude. Ive been to wakes on the mountain for fellow riders and that is what it used to be about. As you get older youll realize that death is something youll be scared of.
