WA regionals spring/summer touring

Hey all,

I wanna climb some shit this season. I'm thinking that once resorts closed, it would be sweet to try and to a peak a week, day hike style, until the snow runs out. I'll definitely be in, and the locations will probably be scattered around to keep it all fresh and new. Minimal BC gear will be needed for most of these climbs; I have some shitty trekkers and skins, but I hope not even to have to use those for most of these. All thats required to join are:

- Some skis

- Boots that you can hike in (even REI has rental hardboots that would be good if your boots arent the best to cut steps in)

- A good attitude

The ascents we will be doing are going to be low avy danger, if any (knock on wood), so these hikes will probably be doable for most people who just want to make the season last longer, even if it means some effort.

Here are the places I've got lined up, and the list will undoubtedly change and shift with suggestions and conditions.

Ruby Mountain

Mt Pilchuck

Headlee Pass / Vesper Peak

Mt Adams

Mt Rainier

Post if you'd be willing to do a few with some random internet people, suggestions, comments on the idea...

Fuzzy bunny slippers with crampons. The ultimate combination of function, comfort, fashion, and badassery~

Hey I'm totally down for it, and you should let me know when you're going somewhere.

I basically have very few people to ski with, so I'm definitely looking for a crew to do this kind of shit with.

I got all my BC gear and some crappy trekkers as well.

Hit me up!

With this many people we can just zerg the mountains and any deaths due to falling or avalanches will be merely a percentage and counted as acceptable losses for the cause~

I'm down with that.

As for gear, if you have a touring setup, by all means you should bring it and use it. But the hikes I want to do are hopefully going to be more vertical than horizontal, so bootpacking should be alright, and if your boots suck, you can go to REI and rent some hardboots to climb with.

For this weekend, I was thinking of doing Mt Pilchuck this weekend, probably Sunday. The one regret I'd have is that this would be one of the last days the lifts are open around the NW and we'd sacrifice that to hike... but who would be down for a quick climb Sunday?

Agreed, I will be at stevens but ill be down in may or june once my knee is fully healed hopefully. I hiked Pilchuck in July last summer and shit was still deep with snow.

I'll be touring up on rainier over memorial day weekend. let me know if anyones heading up

i would like to hit up some highway 20 spots this spring if anyone is interested. i'm not sure when highway 20 will open this may. late? town of twisp doesn't seem to have any secret info today either. wsdot crews have not been putting in overtime to get the road open. and they were not working yesterday or today.

wsdot crews have digital cameras. not as cool as last years' but still crazy slides.

God damn I can't wait to get out and make some more turns. Sunday was amazing. Almost forgot how much I missed it.

This sunday might be happening, who can make it if we choose to earn some turns? Or are too many people going to be enjoying Alpy and Grandma's booter?

Are you guys gonna be doing it this summer too? I wanna make sure the knee is good to go before I get into anything too stressful.

i'm just asking guys who are more experienced at this, because i've never done this before, but how practical would it be to hike up in hiking boots and carry my ski boots in a pack or something? my feet hurt like hell even after short hikes, but i don't know how likely it is that i'll get new boots soon... if it works out i'd be down to do some of this stuff.

I hiked up Pilchuck in hiking boots and just had my ski boots already clicked into my skis that were strapped to my back. Saved my feet.

If you dont like wet feet, bring some extra socks, or rent some hard boots at REI.

Yeah, this weekend is a no go again, working and WCS.

brian didn't they teach you about shoes too? everyone knows you can't just go hiking in socks. bears can smell the menstruation.

highway 20 opens today.

how are the mountains north of sandpoint for some spring touring - i just moved to pullman this winter and am hoping to keep skiing for a while
