Voter registration - picking a party

Hey all, I'm just curious about something.

I've lived in Vermont for the last elections and I know that when you register to vote you don't have to claim a party, except in primaries. I'm registering in a new state and it's asking me my party affiliation. Is your state like this? It's not a problem, but being from Vermont, I'm not used to it.
 
ive seen some of your political posts, so i can pretty safely say we probably agree on allot of issues..

but the Republican party has lost its way when it comes to REAL conservatism.

most of them today are Big government/ tax and spend Republicans
 
Where do you come up with this stuff. George Washington was definatly a fedrialist even though he didn't like the idea of parties in the first place.
 
yeah I like Barry Goldwaters policies.

The republican party has been hijacked by the religious right.

Barry Goldwater once said

"I think it's great we have a lot of religious people in our party, they just need to leave their religion in their churches"

My family is a bunch of christian republicans but they realize it isn't right for the government to determine what is morally right and wrong as far as gays, abortions, ect.
 
wow, Phil is the only one who answered my question. Thanks Phil. In Kentucky, though, if I write in Independent in the 'other' category I can only vote for non-partisan offices besides the general election; aka, no primaries if I like a dem or repub. Bummer.
