Has anybody ever owned one? I just fucked up my car and I'm lookin to get a cheap one for the ski season, possibly an 850R or a V70XC . My buddy has one and it drives smooth as shit, 5 cylinder turbos are cool as hell too.

Thoughts?

fuckin yeah get a volvo. mines a 95 and its got over 200,000 miles on it still going strong. i have the 940 wagon and it hauls shit loads of equiptment

i dont think any one has ever drivin them to the point of breaking, they usually get put out of commission in an accident. so i would go for it, 740 turbos are sick.

Went camping the Labor Day before last and one kid in our group rolled his late 80s early 90s Volvo. About 2 hours of punching the roof up so he could sit in it and finding some goggles for him to wear (windshield we kicked out) and he could still drive it.

I drove/drive an 850 Turbo.
Great car. it's been bulletproof.
Quite a bit of power to the front wheels, you'll go through a lot of tires if you go for a turbo or an R. understeers quite readily though. Suspension is a bit stiffer on the R (fixes the turbos issue with that), or just get some coils. If you can find an R that isn't beaten to shit for the right price (there have been quite a few on the market that look good), but if not I'd recommend a turbo. With the money you save you could put in a few mods and have something better than an R. They make great sleepers.
Also mentioning the fact that these cars are loaded with just about every feature you could every ask for....AND you can get a manual trans. swap done fairly cheaply :)

the only thing that really gives people problems is the rubber components. hoses/bushins/joints

swedes make rubber like a dickhead.

I've heard that the ones that were made by ford while volvo was owned by them are shitty... does anyone have one of these gens?

thats just typical ignorant hate on ford.

volvo was bought by ford in 1999 and to present ford still owns volvo. so whoever said that ford owned volvo and now they don't, just proves that they don't know anything.

they are still owned by ford by they are made by the swedes again I believe... I could be mistaken tho. I'll text my buddy who works at a volvo dealership and get back on that.

I didnt mean to hate on ford, they make quality cars. Dont take it personally Henry.

Drive real nice, well built cars. Reliability wise the mechanics are all really good but the electronics especially on newer ones tend to get a little funky, and they cost a bit more than an average car to repair.
