Volkswagon 1.8t vs Vr6

If you have owned a Vr6 or a 1.8t vdub i want your opinion. Pro's and Con's of both and which one will be a better bang for your buck. Also which one can you squeeze the most horsepower out of the cheapest.
 
That being said the 1.8T is a 4cylinder pre turboed and the VR6 is a 6 cylinder non turboed, to get easy horsepower cheap I would stick with the 1.8T because a tune and a turbo swap can get lots of gains. As for the VR6 generally you would have to do a custom setup and that can be pricy but you can get a lot more power out of it. Not to mention the 1.8 gets way better gas mileage
 
never personally heard one haha, roommate has a mk2 gti with a vr6, I used to have a b5 passat vr6!

Lol G60s are very uncommon I just happen to own a very very uncommon volkswagen corrado and damn she sounds good, but vr6s sound like heaven.

The B5 passat was a 30 valve 2.8L V6, not a vr6, completely different engines. Vr6 engines are designed to be transverse engines, while the v6 in the passat is a longitudinal mounted engine, so unless you swapped in a vr6 or actually had a b4 you didn't have a vr6.
 
Considering I own a 2004 Vr, get the tdi. If not, grab the Vr6, 24v of course. Sound is pure sex and has more hp than the 1.8t. Downside is modding the motor. If you plan on "building" it get a 1.8t. A lot more cheap options in the way of upgrades. Throw a frankenturbo or k05/k06 and you have a fast car.
 
Ummm I can get 34 mpg in my vr on a good day. Usually around 29 driving normally. In fact i get better mpg on roads 45-55 than on the highway. 1.8t is barely better. Its how you drive AND IT BETTER BE WITH A STICK.

Inb4 OP disregards all and gets an automatic 2.slow.

Idk how good it may be, its a volvo station wagon, and the only people that drive it are rich sloota dropping their bitchfaced children off at soccer practice.
 
Had both a 1.8t and a vr6 - vr6 was more fun to drive. Bearing in mind I didn't mod my 1.8t, but it had significant turbo lag and wasn't nearly as responsive as the vr6.
 
1.8t's are one of the better motors out there for sure, there's a reason they're in so many cars. 1.8t's are stupidly cheap to make fast and still do it pretty reliably. Chip it, test pipe, headers, FMIC, and injectors will run you under a grand and you'll be smoking vr6's more reliably. I have a 1.8t in a b5 a4, so I'm not sure about how VW does things, but make sure to check the engine codes, ie the AEB makes 20 less horsepower than the AWM, and the AWM has bigger oil lines going into the turbo, so the turbos don't blow as often. Just be careful when choosing a car, not all 1.8t's are created equal
 
Any V6 is going to weigh a lot more than a 4 banger, and in a car as small as a jetta or golf that difference is definitely going to be noticeable, especially when its right over the front axle. I had a 04 Passat GLS wagon for a while and it did everything I wanted. Sounded great, did good in the snow, and was pretty quick. 1.8T gets my vote
 


Sugga dig. This is how my exhaust sounds (probably same exhaust). IDK boxers sound good when done right, but most fart cannons I see on the back of wrx's and sti's make them sound very, very poopy.

My friend has a golf city and says the clutch is very forgiving but basically start in an empty parking lot and give gas while releasing the clutch slowly to practice knowing where the friction point is and from there its really easy
 
damn why cant all the southern NH dubbers have nice sounding exhausts. most have vr6 swaps or 2.0T's that sound worse than riced civics. I hate "dubs" but some in this video including yours sounding pretty nice
 
I own two Volkswagon Passat wagons, one with the 1.8t and the other with the Vr6. They are both great engines and you will be happy with either one. I'm no car expert, but the v6 seems to be touchier and have more overall power. The 1.8t is quick and accelerates well, and most importantly it is more fuel efficient. Hope that helped
