Volant Spatula

alright, we've pretty much all seen the specs on it but has anyone ever touched one or ridden on it? could this be innovation that'll carry across all the ski companies or a failure like the mad_trix system?

and why are they only making 300?

The bad thing about this ski is its totally unusable in bounds. How many of us NEVER ski in bounds? And who is going to shell out money for a ski they can barely use, even if it IS wicked at what it does? Only the most hard core out of bounds skiers and pros.

well I have touched it and less then 10 people have ridden it. They're not going to produce it, because its an incredible ski, but as soon as you're on anything groomed, your fucked. At the SIA show the volant guy said theres only like 3 pairs out there and mcconkey woulndt give them to anyone else

my question is y would volant put their money in somthing that iisnt gonna sell to good because most ppl dont have much of a use for it

Publicity! Look Volant has people heads turned and talking.

they're only making 300 of them so it's not a huge investment, especially considering mcconkey designed them. i don't think much r&d went into these. mcconkey had an idea, they went with it, and he liked it so they're selling a few more to see how it works out.

there are LOTS of people who only ski backcountry. I know a pile of people in fernie who only go up to the resort on a powder day, aside from that they just tour in to the backcountry. Plus lots of people have multiple pairs of skis for different conditions...i have 3 pairs right now.

I dont think they will take off, as far as the public goes. The market is too small to make a profit, but in the backcountry community I think this ski would be quite respected. I ski backcountry quite a bit and I would love to try this ski.

It wont be a failure because Volant knows what it wants to accomplish, and it will do that.
