VIVA CHAVEZ! Long live the Bolivarian Revolution! Chavez-reelected

(Reuters) - Venezuela's socialist President Hugo Chavez comfortably won re-election on Sunday, quashing the opposition's best chance at unseating him in 14 years and cementing himself as a dominant figure in modern Latin American history.

I don't know where venezuela is and I have never bought anything from there so I don't really give a fuck who is running their dusty latin coke ring anyways.

your idea of "fair elections": when the pro-US/pro-capitalist candidate wins. lmao the people have spoken and they want socialism, try again in 2020 :)

Actually im all for socialism but Chavez isnt' for the people anymore. He has become blinded by power. I think the government shouldn't have control of the media and that government shouldn't be one man controlling others. I don't mind that he is anti US I actually agree with him on alot but one man should not have that much power over others in my opinion.

okay. that's a fair enough criticism. however, i think it is critical that Chavez establishes some degree of control over the media to suppress counter-revolutionary/imperialist fervor. remember, private media almost always represents the wealthy classes (capriles) so i think it is only fair that the state has some media control to represent the view of the working classes/pro-chavistas.

remember, Allende? his movement was crushed by counter revolution and the imperialists because he did not establish firm enough control of the state (didn't arm the workers and failed to dismantle fascist elements within the military)

when socialism is at stake, i think some authoritarian measures are justified. however, the majority of Venezuelans support Chavez, so that's what's important in democracy, right?

I don't know the facts on this, but any Venezuelan I know is anti-Chavez. I know two Venezuelans that are moving to the US because they have "no more hope" in the country because of this. Is his idea and thought process good? That's debatable, is he for the people and actually making the country a better place for his citizens? No.

Considering that i am the only Venezuelan born member i guess ill jump in here.

Chavez is one of my least favorite people in the world. he is responsible for controlling ALL of the money and resources (massive amounts of fossil fuels, precious metals, and diamonds). he also has begun nationalizing much of the amenities.

I was in Venezuela in the December and i noticed that the Hilton that my grandfather had designed, was now draped in red banners, and posters of Chavez were everywhere. The hotel had become venezuelan property.

WHAT FUCKING PISSED ME OFF MORE ALL OF THAT SHIT is that THAT FAT FUCKING SHIT, TOOK THE MARINA THAT MY GRANDFATHER HAD BUILT (THE ISLAND WHERE I WAS BORN'S FIRST DOCK/PORT) AND MADE IT PART OF CHAVEZ MANY NEW BUSINESSES. HE WAS GIVEN A CHECK FOR ROUGHLY 50,000 DOLLARS. THE MARINA WAS VALUED AT OVER 15,000,000 USD.

EAT SHIT AND DIE CHAVEZ.

Had lunch with one of these people today, told me stories of men in Chavezs militia coming in with guns and breaking lucks and stealing from her home.

butthurt expats/bourgeoisie aren't reliable sources. Chavez has reduced poverty and unemployment tremendously and improved standards of living. if some dumb bourgie's factory was nationalized that's just too bad, nobody fucking cares.

Socialists make me laugh. The economic and logical fallacies that are littered through out socialist ideology is compelling. But all of that aside: OP, if you really care about the working class/poor people, than why do you advocate the system that restrains them the most?

Socialism eliminates the struggle for the reproduction of daily life. It gives people dignity and allows them to choose their own destiny.

Oh yeah, central planning is much more efficient than capitalist market. Take an econ/phil class bro.

I am pretty close to getting a bachelors degree in economics with a minor in political science. I also do a lot of economic research outside of class, just for fun. Socialsim presents many economic problems. The two biggest are the coordination problem and the incentive problem. It is impossible for the central planners to coordinate the millions of individual decisions made by consumers, businesses, and resource suppliers. Say that we have a factory that produces tractors. The central planners have to establish a realistic annual production target, for example, 1000 tractors. They then had to make available all the necessary inputs - labor, machinery, electric power, steel, tires, glass, paint, transportation, etc. - for the production of those 1000 tractors. It is impossible for the central planners to do this, which your soviets learned. As their economy grew the coordination problem became to difficult to tackle. Products and production methods grew more sophisticated with the times, and the number of industries requiring planning increased. Planning techniques that worked for the simpler economy of the early USSR proved inadequate and inefficient for the larger global economy of the late 20th century. To cope, planners suppressed product variety, focusing on one or two products in each product category. How does this make anyone more free?

A lack of a reliable success indicator added to the coordination problem in the Soviet Union and China prior to their market reforms. In a market economy, profit is the success indicator. Profit depends on consumer demand, production efficiency, and product quality. In the command system the major success indicator was a quantitative production target that the central planners assigned. Production costs, product quality and product mix were secondary considerations. For example, managers and workers often sacrificed product quality and variety because they were being awarded bonuses for meeting quantitative, not qualitative, targets. If meeting production goals meant sloppy assembly work and little product variety, so be it. It was also very difficult for the central planners of the USSR to assign quantitative production targets without unintentionally producing distortions in output. If the plan called for a production target for producing nails in terms of weight, the enterprise made only large nails. But if it specified the target as quantity, the firm made all small nails, and lots of them. This is fact, this is what actually happened in the USSR. The next major problem is the incentive problem. When central planners misjudged how many cars, shoes, shirts, and chickens were wanted at the government determined prices, persistent shortages and surpluses of those products arose. But as long as the managers who oversaw the production of those goods were rewarded for meeting their assigned production goals, they had no incentive to adjust production in response to the shortages and surpluses that hampered society and lagged economic growth. There were no fluctuations in prices and profitability to signal that more or less of certain products was desired. As a result, many products were unavailable or in short supply, while other products were overproduced and sat for months or years in warehouses. The command systems of the former Soviet Union and China before their market reforms also lacked entrepreneurship. Central planning did not trigger the profit motive, nor did it reward innovation and enterprise. What it did reward was the political hierarchy of the Communist Party.

OP is an ideologue and a fool at that. Chavez and Che Guevara are nothing but cowardly murders who pillaged liberty from their societies.

I can't afford your house so I'm going to take it with guns in your face. Anyone who thinks this dictator is going to let himself lose a "free" election is a retard. You think socialism is so good? Why don't you get the fuck out of the us and move to this shit hole.

A common misconception in the west is that soviet citizens wanted capitalism. This is simply not true. The Soviet Union was brought down by counter-revolutary liberal/fascist murders like pig-dog yeltsin who massacred defenders of the Supreme Soviet on infamous black october.

i watched this yesterday, i thought it was interesting and very loosely connected to this thread so ill post it

You would say that if you were in a labor camp in Siberia. 9 million noncombatants under Stalin alone plus the millions of soldiers sent into combat with no rifles. Now are you going to argue that hitler was your hero too

the extent of labor camps in the former USSR have been grossly exaggerated by pro-west bourgeois historians. that being said it was a wise move by Stalin to purge pro-fascist/german elements within the red army, but he may have gone a little overboard.

and anyway, why would hitler be my hero? he was right wing filth, more up your alley.

Come to Norway.

fo'realz tho Stalin labour camps were straigth up horrible, so were stalin, no matter how you twist it.

nazi germany can be characterized by state monopoly capitalism. big capitalists still in control of major means of production. murdered communists, labor organizers, ethnic minorities, etc. ideology based on nationalism, racial superiority. = right-wing

State monopoly capitalism is socialism. Hitler ran on the socialist platform. Why does every one think racial superiority and murdered minorities = right wing. The "demorats" were the party of slavery, 3/5 and the kkk. Republicans were the party of founded by Lincoln. Proving "demorats" we're pieces on shit then and remain today

state monopoly capitalism is not socialism, it's capitalism except the capitalists' losses are covered by the state. if hitler ran on a socialist platform why did he kill communists and socialists?

Historically speaking, the civil war/radical reconstruction Republican Party was left-wing, not right-wing. political parties change their positions over time. Today, the Democratic and Republican Parties are both right-wing parties.

So basicly the state dictates which business go out of business and which stay in business. The government dictated what was produced and where in nazi Germany if a ball bearing plant was destroyed they would dictate by force which factory was transformed into a ball bearing factory. No one was safe if you refused you were killed. He killed all the comimies and intellectuals because they were rivals much like what he did at the rich stag to become the supreme leader of Germany

And so continues the reign of another tyrannical dictator who's self assured perception of social justice will continue to erode the hearts and minds of its citizens, until such a point that they are forced to choose between revering or revolting. Yet too often the spirit of revolution drowns in a sea of faces draped in the colors they are told to represent.
