Vimeo vs. Youtube

Aright, lately I've been seeing, through Facebook, a lot of edits posted of Vimeo where i am a YouTube user and i was wondering which website is really better for video editing and of course being seen?

Personally I prefer Vimeo. The HD quality is way better, the layout highlights the video, not ads or the makers, plus you can upload longer videos. Vimeo is more professional and really focuses on what the video is about, not who uploaded it.

uhh neither is made for editing...

youtube is probably better for getting views if that is the only place you put it.

vimeo is better for using it as a host for posting it other places. it will stay higher quality, and is better for embedding on other sites

definitely use vimeo and then just post it to newschoolers from there. youtube will get views from people that type in "freestyle skiing" or something and just watch whatever comes up

here is the concise answer

vimeo is more professional

youtube is for parents putting up videos of their kids or people putting up stupid videos of their friends

having that said i think ill put up another thread on what editing software people use in their edits. thank you.

i literally have 0 experience ive never mad an edit before but now im getting a little better and id like to next season

^^^ YouTube is all about having the "right" name and it has so many unprofessional videos that it's not worth the bother

vimeo is the fucking shit, for one the player is 1000 times better and there's no adds anywhere. Vimeo has such a communal feel too, the fact that the staff takes time to choose any cool videos that are uploaded to the home page as a staff pick is extremely awesome/motivating. Only downside to vimeo is if you don't have a plus membership (i do not) you cant embed in HD. There's also cool weekly challenges you can do to win free plus memberships and various vimeo film school lessons that actually featured Martini and Napes. I started using vimeo about 5 yrs ago when someone uploaded a ski edit and I've been using it ever since. I have 65 pages of "likes" of pretty much every notable ski edit for the past 5 years along with some cool staff picks

Shooting Winter Action Sports from Vimeo Video School on Vimeo.

The staff members are also avid filmmakers, Ian Durkin made a sweet film with kevin steen and Michael Clarke

Surfaces: A Vermont Skateboarding Adventure from Ian Durkin on Vimeo.

and just recently posted a photo of Dale jumping the RTC RV so maybe he helped them out too.

Vimeo is the shit

The problem with youtube is that its all up to luck to get veiws,,,where as vimeo videos are all "treated" equally and it wont just show pewdiepie on the home page (thank god)

You'll get more views on Youtube but on Vimeo you can add your videos to groups so that people with the same interests can see them.

Also Vimeo is really more for filmmakers, so instead of arriving on the front page and seeing that a 20 seconds "fat cat eatin' pasta lolz" video got 2 millions views you see awesome videos choosed by the Vimeo Staff itself.
