ok i started this as a topic on another site and got stupid ass remarks. that site just happened to be a bunch of snowboarders but fuck it.

what do you all think about the concept of religion? organized or not

i believe in no religion, no god, just scientific explainations.

what i don´t get is why people think that there being a god gives a meaning to life, i´d say that would just make life itslef more pointless.

but i´d like to go to heaven someday.

 
Western Religion is a bunch of horseshit I don't really think I need to explain myself here, giving credibility to a book which tells you that jesus had blond hair and blue eyes just doesn't make sense. Religon, in it's essence, is a good idea, it brings people hope and meaning. But its like chris rock says in dogma we took a good idea and built a belief system around it. Hence our morals are built around a dogmatic structure making it very hard to change.

 
religion should be a good thing that leads to peace and inlightenment. but people are shit and they always find a way to fuck things up, instead u see religion bringing violence and ignorane. Its really pathitic when u see people rooting and fighting over there religion the same way they would over a football team. So i just beleve what i beleve and stay out of organised relegion, cuz all that is, is a big worldwide gang.

i'm episcopalian (but the sad thing is i cant spell my own religion right) and i believe in god and all that and i am religious and i think that if people have faith thats reall good, and if they don't THEY WIL GO TO HELL! no, j/p, that's they're own decision, so go religious people! but non-religious are okay too. it just makes me happy to worship god, yay yay go me!

If god is supposed to be looking out for us. Then why did he let all those people die in new york and washington. Also, the jews are said to be gods people in the bible. Now look at all this shit going on in Israel. I dont know if i believe in god but i think there is some force controlling the universe.

I'm a presbyterian. I believe in God, but I don't believe in everything the church states or does. I think personal faith is great, but I mean, those evangelists kinda irk me. I figure, respect other people's beliefs the way you want them to respect yours. Don't be pushing your religion onto other people because that would bug the hell out of them. If they're curious they'll come to you. So basically, be whatever you want to be, just don't be annoying.

yeah really, some people act like they no exactly what god (or whatever u beleve in) thinks. I think thats just dumb becuase the bible could have been writen by madmen and all those visions people have are probably the result of weed or something like it. So what i think there should be is a united religion council, cuz we have a un for countrys why not something simmilar for religion. I mean this only so all this violence could stop that goes over religios belefs.

Religion is like a countries colors you know what I mean, like a gang sign. England was protestant and they fucking stepped in to Ireland, catholic and laid down the bullshit penal code. And then they're like you can't be catholic it's illegal, If I see your colors I'ma put one in ya head. Theres countless other examples of this horseshit.

Hey, i might believe in religion if it was a little more realistic...i mean yeah thats great that god made all this weird shit happen 2000 years ago but why arent we seeing it anymore. That and noah's arc is geographically and genetically impossible, but yeah...tahts just my opinion, im not stomping anyone here. id just rather say i dont know then go with an opinion.

i just can't picture myself believing in something that someone thought of like 2000 years ago...i'd rather just believe in what i want to, instead of what people tell me to...i dont see the point of religion, its just somewhere to turn for people

yeah, c-lo, I'd much rather base my beliefs on Chris Rock than the word of God. And have any of you actually read the Bible? I think you're all afraid to, because you know it's truth. But hey, that's just my opinion, right? I'm tired of everybody comparing religiosity with Christianity- I don't consider myself religious; I can have a religion of hampsters and discover things about them that I can enjoy and be amused by. But Christianity is a concious decision to change my life and devote it to God, who says that we should love each other and be kind, gracious, patient, honest, etc. I totally agree that *religion* has been a factor in many wars.

What's wrong with believing in God? And where exactly does the Bible say that Christ had blonde hair and blue eyes? I'm not angry, just kind of sad that in rejecting Christ, you're rejecting all His blessings; eternal life.

Buck up and read the Bible. I suggest starting with Luke, the third book in the NT. And instead of throwing away those gospel tracks, try reading what they have to say. Back in the day religeon answered the questions that people had that science had not yet revealed. now that we are begining to uncover some of the real answers, people are freakin out....it's great.

I think the old testament is completely ruining the whole Ideal of the catholic religion. It doesn't really express the views of Jesus (and there is no debating if Jesus was real... there are many sources that talk about him)

People are always confusing catholicism (which is quite libral) to christianity in the sourthern states, where they take everything in the bible as fact.

Catholicism has always said that the old testament (the part about creation and all of the stories about the ark, for those that don't know) is only supposed to be taken figuratively (NOT as fact) so really science doesn't disprove catholicism. my personal view is that is strenghtens it. if you know enough about both you'll see that the two can coincide very well.

so really according to my religion...

1) the world was NOT actually created in 7 days.

2) there was no noah's ark (it's a parable about mans duty to preserve the earth)

oh and why do people die?????

because us humans have freedom of choice.... God isn't choosing who is and isn't going to die it's all a result of our and others own freewill.

if you're still confused and saying that there is no God, then remember,

'there are no atheists in a fox hole...'

think about it and you'll realize that ignorance is bliss and it is harder for you to actually attempt to believe than to rebel with lack of insight.

I hope I haven't come off as preachy, but all of the excuses against believing in God have been week and uneducated. and I'm talking about belief and not your choice to support a church because you don't like the way they conduct themselves.

religion is a way for people to explain the unexplainable... people are too scared to admit that they dont know everything... so they use religon as a crutch..or a blindfold...

the values that religion instills are good... but look at how many wars are started because of religion...

i'm not saying that everything isnt tied together in some way or another... but i am saying that to pray to a dude in the sky is kinda bullshit

just live your life the best that you can.. and you will end up where you need to be.

we were having a debate in religion class today. some kids did a presentation and said that war is peace and ignorance is bliss. well i believe both can be true for some.. but not all. they said that war leads to jobs etc. and i said it leads to an abundance of jobs for a period of time. but then they will loss jobs when the war is over and then be mad. and they came back by saying. well you need lots of guns and stuff for the war thats where the jobs are there. and i said we stil need people to make guns for everyday life. but they wouldnt believe that we did. as well they said that ignorance is bliss, and me an another girl faught that.. ok if u dont know anything u cannot be angered by it true. but u may be very knoledgable and that doesnt make u depressed like they told us it did. they said once u know all the bad and the hate in the world u will be depresed not true. beacuse u can be knoledgable and try to help. just because your knowledgable doesnt mean u wil be depressed, then they sdaid well how many mentally challenged peopl do i know who are depressed.a dn i said my cousin was.. because hes made fun of etc. he knows. mentally challenged' kids arent dumb. yet very bright. but they wouldnt listen. grrrr..... i think the world and its religions are just a way to believe in the unknown and some people take it to an almost pathetic extent where they dont believe anything but what the bible or a religious figure has told them to believe.

the person that said war makes alot of jobs is right. When WW2 started, 30 percent of the country was unemployed. The war created a need for soldiers and workers in the factories making tanks or planes or whatever. That is a ton of jobs. It gave our economy the boost it needed to get out of the depression.

app, ok i know it creates jbs. but only for a certain period of time. they are only there o suport the demand of product needed.. after the war they loose thier jobs. so its not like new jobs were created, because those jobs (from whatever purpose) where there before the war.. just not in such a big number

Organized religion is a bunch of bullshit. Around here it's starting to be the popular thing to do. That's sad. Religion is supposed to be enlightening. I beleive in a greater good as well as an over riding evil, but the way 'modern' christianity is going, fuck that.

religion is a good thing. when people believe they had respect and fear for punishment. now that many people dont believe they arents scared. and in a way people have a free thought.. the human mind will one day be our worst enemy.

arg. anyone who is religious and calls an atheist ignorant fell off the sanity boat a long time ago. Whenever i hear 'let us guide you' i hear 'don't think for yourself, make your own decisions'. I'm not about to let someone control my life so they can tell me im gona go to heaven and that bad people go to hell. Why don't we see any signs of god around us anymore? WHat about evolution? you're saying that never happened? The whole thing worked 2000 years ago, but it doesn't anymore. Religion is the opium of the masses.
