Viewing thread images - too small

often times images will be too small to read the text. an example of when this happens it when an image is long and so it is shrunk to fit. the text becomes illegible.so i click on the image to view it larger. and for a split second it will become visible at a larger size. but then it shrinks, apparently to fit in the new window better?

zooming in does not help here.

why does this happen? am i the only one? is it fixable by me?

example image from current thread:

579289.jpeg

this image is full size anyways. not a big image.

but when you click on it and it opens in new window, right click and 'view image' then you can zoom in to full image size. (assuming you're using Firefox)

thats the thing, i zoom in (on chrome but i think its basically the same, this used to happen to me on firefox too) and the font that says 'click to close window' will zoom in, but the image will not change size.

and that image that i put in the thread is actuallly getting smaller when i click to open it in a new window

right click on the image. click 'open image in new tab'. then you can expand the image itself, not jsut zoom in on the resized version you see

I totally have this with longer comics and stuff. Same thing when I open it in a new window, it'g big but then scales. Usually I just copy the URL and go to the website, but it's more work and I'm usually not that interested.

We've gone through this one a ton before with mixed results. Overall people wanted to have the popup display the entire image in the biggest size possible in the window. Meaning it scales it so the both the width and height fit within the size of your desktop. Most of the time this works quite well with landscape and standard ration portrait photos. When you have an image like this, the ratio of height to width is totally skewed, so it fits to the largest dimension, in this case the height.

The resize doesn't "suck", it's done this way by design to satisfy the majority of usage cases on the site, it just doesn't fit this case.

i have always had this problem with chrome, cant believe there was a solution that simple haha i owe you one

I agree. The second click should enlarge the image to its full resolution, not close the window (in the same way "view image" functionality works).

would it be possible to have a option in our profile settings where you could choose how the pop-up behaves? Or would that require a ton of coding?
