So I just discovered I have about an extra 1700 dollars in my bank account. I'm not really sure how this happened, but I am pumped. I am looking to spend aprox a grand, and i can find a panisonic dvx for 1000 or i could get say like a canon 30d for 700 dollars (or an even better one for 1000).

Now as for the decision. The fact of the matter is i really would like to get into one of these fields in the future. I plan on taking a film class AND a digital photography class next semester. My main thing i would be covering is skiing and being in SLC and meeting the people i have, there is great opportunity to film/photo these amazing riders.

Any input would be great.

i'd go with the still camera and here's why. back when i was in high school i took a photography class. keep in mind that it was just a high school class, however, my first year in college i took a video class, and the stuff i learned in the photography class really helped for understanding the video stuff.

on the flip side, you may want to get the more expensive video camera first, seeing that you have the extra cash right now.

i'd really think about what you see yourself getting more use out of. personally i use still cameras much more often then video cameras (in fact, i don't even own a video camera).

I just thought i needed more money/made less money and for some reason i just realized today i had that much extra.

personally, i like video, and i find much more enjoyment editing video rather than editing pictures...however, lots more people seem to be good at video than photography and I think that some good pics would be awesome...just a little insight i guess...

no way in hell a dvx that is brand new and working would sell for less the $2000 unless you know people.......

those site cant be legit, try resellerratings.com to make sure, but those prices are incredibly low

both those sites are fake, typical bait and switch. B+h photo is awesome, but you arent going to find a dvx for a grand

You will not get anything close to a DVX for a $1000...

A dvx will run you 2500+ new. You could get a brand new GL2 for 1700 and if you don't have even have a camera now, that should be plenty of cam for you.

I'd recommend video. Stills are very nice but a set of pictures simply isn't nearly as substantial as a full length video.

id say video, i just find it to be more fun, but it is also a hassel, to set up for shots and such, you really have to dedicate your time to it vs. just going out and skiing for fun. but yeah those dvx arent legit, try skateperception and ebay for decent prices, but its a sick cam and its worth investing in

when i bought my camera i would bring up stuff like this...and the main relpy was "if it seems like too good to be true, than it probably is."

So it looks like my price range doesn't hit the kind of video camera i want so maybe ill just get a still, i have a long time to decide.
