K so i bought myself a mac witht he help of my dad about 2 weeks ago. I am using iMovie and already i have found it VERY limiting. I cant speed up or slow down clips, and its doesnt have a lot of the features that Windows Movie Maker has. I dont know if i am missing something hear but if someone could help me out with extra features or just recommend some decent video editors for mac that would be awesome.

you can speed up and slow down vids - go to effects - on right side - scroll down and find fast/slow/reverse and adjust the setting - there are a bunch of other effects like that

Im pretty sure imovie HD is dowloadable on the apple site.
It was part of ilife 06 (you have ilife08)
I edit a bunch and i find no need to buy final cut, because imovie HD is great
