Video editing tips.

So I just got a really sweet camera in the hopes I could make some videos, could someone help me out on any good video editing software? Also a few tips on how to make nice looking vids would be awsome.

Thanks!

For better options and more in depth software I would go with Premiere Pro, and for more a more simple and easier layout (yet still very good software) I would go with Final Cut.

Anyone can correct me if I am wrong

But FOR ME if i'm trying to meet a deadline and crank something out, Final cut is my go to, simple, easy.

If I am looking for compatibility with other software such as color correction, rendering, after affects, etc, and i wanted a longer in depth edit, I would go with Premiere Pro.

As far as editing, everyone has a different vision, that's why there are so many critiques, there is never a perfect way to edit something. However, I would just start simple and feel the music you choose. Definitely cut on beat if the music allows you too. That would be my first suggestion.

invest in a tripod/ stabilizer if your serious about making sweet cuts! IMO editing can go a long way, but you can't do much about shaky shots

Lynda.com will teach you the ins and outs of any program. Invest in it, and do the lessons. Best bet IMO. Adobe PP is the way to go with editing, super easy once you get the workflow and shortcuts down. Also can do just about anything you need until you almost get to a professional level, and if you do, hopefully you went with the CC and you will have everything you need with that case.

Go with Premiere. It can appear daunting but is really very straightforward once you learn.

I am a professional cinematographer/editor (not in skiing) and the best suggestion I have is just to practice with your gear a lot. If you are only filming skiing get a stabilizer/gimbal, if not get a tripod, or both.

My other suggestion is to watch a lot of youtube tutorials about your gear/software, read forums, and get super nerdy about it. Most of all, get excited about what you are making! Put as much feeling into your edit and shooting as you can and people will love your stuff.

I used final cut pro for about 2 years and I loved it. The only thing was it didn't have compatibility with better audio and after effects. I switched to Adobe CC and its probably one of the best investments I've ever made. Premiere is an absolute workhorse and the dynamic link between premiere, ae, and audition is amazing

A little off topic but how long did it take you guys to learn premiere pro? im trying to get used to it because i usually use FCPX and i want to see if i like it better..

i tried to make an edit in premiere the other day, and when i finished it, some reason the whole thing was in fast motion lol

I hate switching between software all the time such a hassle to have to learn two programs. Two sets of keyboard shortcuts and ways of editing is a no fro me dawg just chose whatever you like best and stick with it.

I wasn't saying to switch back and forth, I was explaining the differences between the two softwares and he can choose
