Video editing help

I have a number of clips and I want to assort them into an edit . One is from facebook, but I don't know how to download it onto my computer. The others are saved to my disc in MP4 format, but they won't play with itunes, VLC or windows media player. The sound works, but I only get about 2 frames that come up. Could it be that they're in HD?

Obviously, I'm not very good with technology, but if someone could get me on the right track so I can at least view them and maybe even make a short edit. What kind of a program should I use to edit? I've heard windows movie maker, but that seems to download from windows automatic updates and I don't understand that. Any help would be great.

if VLC doesnt play it theres something wrong with the file.

as for edting. there was a free editor i used a while back but i forgot the name. they dont offer much except cutting. if thats what your looking for though go google that stuff.

as for the facebook thing, if i understand correctly you want to know how to get clips off facebook. as far as i know you cant. Id ask the person for the clip direclty
 
- and + karma. Guess who got which. Any way thank you for that help. I manged to upload 2 bad clips (unedited), and they work for streaming on NS, so that's a start. I have a slow connection, but the uploads are slow for even a small video. Anyone else get this? Or know anything about FB vids?
 
Ns always takes a long time to upload videos. It took me like an hour to upload a 132 mb vid. and as for that clip like he said up there, if its not playing on VLC, theres a problem
