Hey NS land, I want to get into filming but dont have decent camera. I dont want to drop like $2000 but I dont want a shitty camera. I was thinking about an HV20 but i want everyone opinions. Any other good cameras you would recommend?

okay HV20 isn't in production anymore. I am not sure if they released the HV40 yet. But your best option is the HV30. Next time you make a thread about this, search, because there are easily 100.

what are the differences between the HV30 and HV40? Also, anyone know what the price will be?

HV40 has better 24p capabilities, no pulldown i think. good if your an independent film maker, but for ski movies you probably want 60i. Even if you want 24p on the 30, its not too hard, small extra step. Get the 30 and save money

it records to dv tapes so its going to record it with a 60i signal, however the way it records it is better, but your still going to have to pulldown when you import.

the hd signal from your sensors has to be downresed to record onto the hdv tape, so in reality they're the same. it gets upresed when you import it, but at a loss of quality compared to recording to memory cards.

and no one likes capturing.

its at least a couple years from being dead. until cards is cheaper people will opt for dv. the canon hv series is one of the most popular cameras around and its minidv.

you can get 16 gig sd cards for 35 dollars, so not exactly expensive, and you can reuse them (you can for tapes but i wouldn't recommend it)

yeah sd cards but i guess i was talking about p2 cards. i just don't see people getting rid of minidv for a couple years. it's a cheap way to get good looking footage.

i wouldnt get a hv30 over an hf11 theirs only a hundred dollar diffrence between them, and in the long run cards are cheaper.

ok. i agree that minidv is going to be a thing of the past in a few years. i'm just trying to say that it will be a few years, not tomorrow.
