Via ferrata is for dumb gapers

Via Ferrara is a good thing. Do you really want clueless folks trying to lead and set a top rope or set trade anchors? Having a very controlled and guided alternative is a very good thing.
 
Ex Via Ferreta guide here. You would be surprised how this stuff terrifies normal people. As a guided activity, it was pretty stupid. It was a simple walk near some waterfalls. Still, people would freak out from walking.

However, they can be practical when you are trying to get to another area and someone else set a via in the past. Italy apparently has the coolest vias
 
Yeah the only barrier to climbing is learning how to climb, not the high costs and the need for a knowledgeable person to take you. Via Ferratta is a fun, once a year thing I do and it’s practically free.
