Very early but potentially very necessary discussion about X Games Real Ski

I understand that a lot of urban skiers would maybe not want to compete in Real Ski X Games. For example, if BMack from the Bunch was asked i bet he would be like...lol. On the other hand, watching Hornbeck's "application" for real ski made it very clear that he would have been competitive with the other videos. Can there be more feedback from the NS community and whatnot on who gets in there? Can there be more spots for people to compete? For example, I think Magnus, LSM, Dom Laporte, Kim Boberg, Casabon, Dollo, Peyben, LJ Strenio, Khai Krepela, McChesney, Ware, Niklas Eriksson, Jens Nilsson, Keegan, and Im sure many others all deserve a chance to at least have their names in the hat. I understand not everyone I listed can/would do it but it would be ill to just deepen the already really dope pool of riders since last year I feel the contest really pushed urban skiing to a new level.

I already feel I got a few that could be good candidates...Talkington (he won 100k with one segment), Olilla, Jonah Williams, Laurent DeMartin and again Im sure there are so many who would be competitive. Along with that I didn't mention the powder part of Real Ski, I think getting someone like McNutt and Fabian Lentsch, Nikolai Schirmer, Hoji, Delorme, Markus Eder, Thayne Rich, etc. need to be in the mix as well

Think of their "application" video as their real ski video that didn't make it out of the qualifying round.

What is stopping folks from making a real ski video segment?

That would be wayyyy to many people.

Also this thread is pretty pointless. I don't even know what your purpose is

I think the thread isn't pointless its just getting more of a fan voting system in place to pick the group and maybe to expand the group to like 10 people. If people are willing and able to make a video for X Games then it would mean more dope free content. More spots/more input from the NS community--->better overall contest?

So you want to dilute the field of a niche part of a niche sport for a niche award in a niche competition?

Big names draw viewers and money, and if big names arent easy to find, people seem it a low level comp.

What's stopping those guys from making an "application" video?

I might be wrong, but I don't think there was a qualifying round. How were the 6 dudes chosen, and were other dudes given an opportunity to be in it?

I hear you about "diluting the field", but it sounds like Hornbeck was pre-disqualified no matter how good his video was gonna be. And that sucks.

Does ESPN get to pick who the top skiers are before the videos are seen? And what's the problem with having more dudes send videos that don't make the final cut?

A thread on newschoolers is most definitely not going to change a big company like ESPN's choice on what skiers to invite into their contest

Well maybe not, but if I remember correctly I think Mr. Bishop was one of the judges and thus must be in some communication with the ESPN guys and Mr. Bishop is on Newschoolers so he could maybe say something about how a voting entrance could work. It's not drawing people away from filming to competing its just exposing the film skiers to a larger audience. This is the transition that needs to be made if film skiing is to keep going strong. Sponsors are dropping film athletes (Orage in particular) like flies and I just think that things like X Games Real Ski can potentially help reverse that trend.

Excuse me if I'm wrong but what other companies besides orage are dropping film skiers? (Besides what happened with k2) In fact I feel as if film skiing is stronger this year than it has been in the past couple years
