Vehicles: A rant

Ok... So yesterday at 11 AM I decided to Depart SLC on a solo mission so Aspen for the Aspen Open. I get about 180 miles under my belt, when I see my engine temperature gauge slowly go up. I figured I'd been driving for awhile so it's sorta normal. 20 miles later i'm on the side of the road with my hood up with a little bit of steam coming from the coolant tank. Oh well, i'll just let it chill for awhile and keep going. I go 5 more miles, same thing happens. I got 5 more miles and catch the last gas station for 80 miles.

Tuns out I need a new thermostat, and there aren't any locally here in Grand Junction, CO. (This place sucks). I had to stay in a Value Inn Motel last night (An extra $66 that I wasn't expecting). Now I'm waiting for them to call me to let me know if I'll have to stay here tonight again. At least I found this library with a bad internet connect to sesh in whilst I wait. Anyway, i'm gonna miss my practice other than the 45 minutes we get before our heat... but 45 people, in 45 minutes equals 1 run a person.... not much practice.

Oh well. Anyone have any good travel/broken down stories?

Yeah, it happens... I hate it when cars break for no apparent reason, so fucking annoying. You're lucky it's just a thermostat dude, my car did that exact same thing but it ended up being a 400$ water pump instead of a 80$ thermostat... and people told me that I was lucky because it wasn't a 1200$ head gasket so... yeah. Haha.

oh yeah... i left the part out about having to be towed 80 miles from Thomson UT to Grand Junction CO. The tow truck driver was badass though. Picture a tow truck driver... and this guy was it. leather jacket, jeans, boots, pirate style rad bandanna. At least he had good stories to tell me.

Yeah... but I bought the car in December of 06, so about 14 months ago. After 5 months I had to take the baller 17 inch rims off because they were cracked, and put the stock ones on, and buy 4 new tires for them. They put the tires on wrong or something, and 3 months later I had to buy 2 more new tires. Then I had to put $900 into it because the previous owner used the wrong coolant, so I had to get a coolant flush and a whole new coolant pump, etc. etc. How this. It's so annoying.

6 new tires within 4 months is bullshit.

is she hot?

kidding...... hopefully I don't have to stay here another night. That would suck. If I do... i'll look her up and go rage it with her. Does she smoke blunts?

i went to rock the bells in san bernardino this summer. on the way there my car is overheating a little (going through vegas and baker, death valley). i pull over get some water in the coolant. keep going and its fine. make it there, concert is sick, and leave. on the way back stop in baker to get some food at a drive thru. car is running in the drive thru and starts over heating so i stop, turn off the car, check the levels and proceed on. about 2 miles outside of baker the car temp sky rockets and the engine turns off and bogs to the side of the road. wait a long while. manage the car to start (running shitty as hell) and whip it across the median, turn the car off, and coast back to baker (luckily 2 miles downhill). coast into a ghetto little shop, guy takes a quick look and the engine is blown. so now i am in the middle of the hottest place in the US with no car. the only thing to do is get a tow truck 100 miles to vegas ($700), drop the car off at a dealership to be fixed. get a hotel in vegas (at least i am in vegas) and wait to see what the word is. after three days i get a call from the dealership and the car is totaled. fuck. need to find a way home so me and two friends i am with get on a bus leaving vegas at 3:00am (wanna see some crack heads get on that). after about 14 hours on the bus i get to vail and get a friend to pick me up and take me back to steamboat, minus about $1000 and a car.

that sucks! i crashed my jetta into a ditch going 80 and now the windsheild wipers don't work and a taillight is out and it doesn't have snow tires n there's bout 2 feet where i am but that bitch mobs!!!!

You crashed your car into a ditch doing 80 and all that happened is

your wipers don't work and a taillight got knocked out? Lucky wench,

jesus..

I blew a fuel pump in my nissan pick up. I was coming home to Aspen from a dirtbike/mountain bike trip to Durango, Co.and Farmington, NM. I left a half day early because my dirtbke engine was spewing oil and I wasn't sure why. Oh yeah, and the day before that I chipped a tooth in my sleep, wierd. Anyway, my truck just died outside of Montrose, which is south of Grand Junction. So I have it towed to the dealer for a diagnostic but they are too busy to deal with it, so just for kicks I turn the key. Low and beholed, it starts, so I decide to go for it. I make it to the top of McClure pass just outside of Redstone Colorado, pretty remote, and it dies so I start hoofin' it. I know a family in Redstone, but that is like at least 5-7 miles away. Imagine how lucky I feel when this traveling salesman picks me up. I was stoked until he starts telling me about the gun he has under the seat. Turns out he was pretty cool and brought me to Carbondale where I had a buddy pick me up. I ended up having the fucker towed to the nissan dealer in Glenwood Springs. They tell me I had an exposed/broken wire on the fuel pump and it is a miracle that the thing didn't explode. On the model I had the pump is in the tank.

I'm surprised no place in Junction had your part, they are all over motorized stuff there.

i was driving up through southern vermont to mount snow and i'm on the back roads and my car engine temp starts going fucking crazy, i stop for 10 minutes (this was recently so it's cold out) and it drop immediately so when the car is idling the temp goes crazy, but while i'm moving it's staying at a normal temp, so i say fuck it and drive to mount snow, make it fine, then drive the hour back home, then bring it to the dealer, new thermostat and radiator later, my car works fine

Update: Guess where I am?!?!?!?!? GRAND JUNCTION!!!!!

They got the thermostat in yesterday, and the lady calls me and says "We got it, and are putting it in.. we'll call you in a couple hours." So I get sorta stoked. She calls me a few hours later and starts with "I have some bad news... the whole thermostat housing is broken, and we had to order a new one from Salt Lake City. It won't be in until tomorrow morning... we'll let you know."

Ironically, the place I started with this whole adventure was SLC, which just makes me mad knowing the part I need is only 5 minutes from my house. Hopefully it makes it here today, because I can't handle the Value Inn another night, or this library.

But, it can always be worse, so in the grand scheme of things it's just an inconvenience. oh well, shit happens.

Haha, I got moving again. $574 later for the car, then like $120 for the hotel, and i'm back on the road. Actually, I'm in Aspen right now and stoked. end thread.

this past weekend i was coming home from quebec to ontario (about a 7 hour drive) and half way home in the middle of nowhere a bearing started making retarded noises and eventually it was really tough to stear. we got a tow truck into town and we ended up having to spend the night in some butfuck town in a hotel that charged us 140 for a shitty room in a hotel that didnt even have a pool.

gay, yo.

we got to go home the next mornin though.
