Vail Resorts ruining east coast park skiing

That’s actually false. The largest revenue stream comes from pass sales/tickets.

I wouldn't say its the largest, its definitely a chunk but for companies like Vail, lodging/food/retail is much more profitable.

Your main Revenue buckets for ski areas are (in no order)

Pass/Ticket sales

F&B

Retail

Lodging

Services (rentals, lessons, parking)

There have been some art lives I’ve seen showing a rough average brake down.

Lots of resorts don’t have one or more of these buckets of lines of business. Vail is lucky to have all

I just dunno if thats true for Vail, for the number of resorts and the cost of the season pass, I'd be surprised if their ticket sales were even close to the other categories overall. Is there any way to access this info since Vail is public? Of course this is different with vail vs independently operated resorts, most resorts the ticket sales/pass sales are significant.

Same at alterra and I’d imagine most places , those $10 burgers and $7 beers add up. Some people go crazy on extravagant lodging, I mean I’ve seen $1000/nt plus lodges, and you know them folks spending big money at dinner all while leaving no ? tip

a lil ? Tho...

for food/merchandise lodging etc to out perform tickets/passes, wouldn’t basically everyone have to spend more per day on the cost of food etc than price of their ticket? When I look at it like that, it makes me think #1 would be day passes followed by food, lodging, other activities and merch, and in last pass holder sales ... no?

You mean $18 burgers and $12 beers haha you can find cheaper beers but at the main lodges at PC thats what you're looking at.

I’ve been packing pocket sandwiches, water etc for years so your right I’ve no idea, that sounds higher than what I’m used to tho, wouldn’t mind if it’s good but I kinda gotta watch the quality and type of food that goes in my gut.

Vail is always ruining something, they take away the things that hardcore skiers enjoy an inch at a time so we don't notice until we look around and realize how much everything has changed. Be vocal and make sure your friends and communities are vocal as well. At the end of the day the only thing they are beholden to is their bottom line but that doesn't mean we shouldn't try to work together to preserve the things we love.

Each new gen brings change for the last, there’s no aspect of my environment from 20 years ago, everywhere I look things have changed, whether it be the people, trends, or development everything is different.

I’m bored and drinking at Shucks. I’ll see what I can find on my phone from their public info. Or that article I saw a bit back

The overall lack of communication on social media with the customer base is completely absurd. I had high hopes that at least my local mountain was going to really come through in COVID, but it's pretty embarrassing for a massive company to fuck up this badly. At the very least, I expected them to hinder the pass holders a bit to get more people hooked, but instead, they're fucking everyone and themselves.

Kitty Katz put out a press lease about that a month or so ago. Saying “my bad, we are understaffed”. From what I’ve heard everywhere there customer service and communication is on par with like Comcast. Bottom of the barrel.

you guys are pretty naive if you think posting on their Instagram is productive at all.

That’s y I proposed “secret shits” at all vail resorts, if every nser and their friends all went to vail resorts and “shat” they would get the fricking message, just no one wear a ns helmet logo we don’t need the publicity just the outcome

Attempting to do nothing and let them have their way would be naive. That was a fucking lame ass post for someone whose been doing what you do for so long

Yeah, but they don’t care. And won’t do anything and it’s a waste of time. They will eventually just delete your comment.

Think of it like Comcast. One of the most hated companies in America. They take away your favorite channel. Why? Who the fuck knows. So you spam their Facebook and IG because now you can’t watch your favorite show. It does nothing.

I heard hunter mtn got scammed also they don’t even have a park kids have been digging stuff in on their own from what I’ve seen. I saw something last year about vail getting ride of okemos super pipe and their park got smaller as well. Even carinthia doesn’t look as big as normal. Big boulders completely shrunk park wise now that pat Morgan left. No superpipe at breck or big big jumps. What I’ve seen of keystone they don’t have big jumps that coulda changed since what I saw last, and pc aren’t as big as they were a few years ago. You could argue all this is a lack of snow and cold temps and the good ole covid of the 19, but you could also say vail is trying to phase out parks. I personally think it’s a bit of both.

Only thing charinthia is loosing is pipe. There was talk of no over 40ft jumps but i believe the park crew said that was false.

The last 7 posts have been getting spammed with terrible comments about what there doing to the park and nothing is deleted. Instead debating with me go drop a comment and prove me wrong let’s see if it’s deleted

You're just annoying some underpaid social media manager/communication manager that has absolutely no control over anything, send an email to the manager if you really want them to see your message.

Yeah I mean they’ll have something but since vail purchased them the parks have been a bit smaller i think. Build quality has stayed good so has the creativity but overall seems smaller

Last week I would have agreed with you but they just built a sick nitro and gulch build. If this was anytime before last week I would have totally agreed with you. Not to sound like a Charitha fan boy but the smaller slightly worse park might be because the park crew management is new this year.

No they literally turned half the park into a groomer with no intentions of building on it
