From the press release..

Vail Resorts plans to transform both the on-mountain and base area experience at Wilmot Mountain. These enhancements will include redesigned and updated terrain parks, best-in-class coaching and instruction for all levels of skiers and riders, expanded dining and entertainment options at the base area, dedicated racing programs and integrated technology and social media programs like EpicMix. Furthermore, the Company will invest in the ski area’s infrastructure to improve snowmaking, parking and access to provide a more consistent experience throughout the season. The Company will share additional details on the ski area’s transformation plan during its March earnings call."

Vail Resorts also announced that access to Wilmot will be included in the Company’s Epic Pass and Epic Local Pass for the 2016-2017 ski season, further connecting the Chicago area to the Company’s eight world-class mountain resorts in Colorado, Utah and Lake Tahoe.

“We are thrilled to welcome Wilmot Mountain to the Vail Resorts family. Wilmot is steeped in skiing tradition and enjoys tremendous brand recognition among Chicago and Milwaukee skiers and snowboarders, thanks to the passion and dedication of the Stopa family over the last 75 years. We plan to offer our Chicago and Milwaukee guests new season pass offerings that will provide the chance to experience the best skiing and snowboarding locally and in the West and will use our best-in-class technology to create more sophisticated channels of communication with everyone who skis at Wilmot. We also plan to bring the same state-of-the-art lifts, snowmaking, lodges, racing, terrain parks, coaching and technology to the guest experience at Wilmot Mountain, much like we have done at Mt. Brighton and Afton Alps, all while honoring the important legacy of the ski area,” said Rob Katz, chairman and chief executive officer of Vail Resorts.

This will be very good for Wilmot mountain... I ski there every day! I just hope it doesn't get over crowded and turn out bad because I have heard some good and bad things about vail.

I have mixed feelings about this, I liked the whole family vibe on one end but on the other hand would I be able to use the epic pass there and save money.

Anyone who feels sketchy about this, I know Vail is kinda monopolizing every ski area in the country but they really do some awesome things with the practically unlimited supply of money they have. They put 10 million into a shitty resort near me(Mt. Brighton) , and now its easily one of the best in the state. The parks are insane, snowmaking is wayyyy better, and grooming is A1. Food is obviously more expensive, but damn its so good. And you get an epic pass and you're set for skiing at other vail resorts. Don't fear change

So it begins...

I have a feeling that Vail is going to set their sites on Granite Peak.

Granite cuts off a lot of the skiers that used to drive up to the UP of Michigan. The current owner has improved the hill so much, but the prices are absurd, so I don't see how Vail could make the cost much worse.

Granite Peak definitely rakes in the dough so its only a matter of time. Might be a good thing, might be a bad thing.

This can only be a good thing. Having worked for both Vail Resorts and Wilmot. Vail will bring changes people like and don't like. Lifts will get up graded, Updated Snow making which Wilmot was already been doing. Rumor has it a New Lodge and Maybe even a Hotel will be built on site. Better Terrain Parks & Grooming which has always been a bad thing there.

And of course the EPIC PASS

Will see Granite Peak is already Owned by Charles Skinner who also owns Lutsen Mountain with Tom Rider.

Wilmot was the missing peace to the puzzle in the Midwest. Chicago & the South Eastern Wisconsin Area is a huge get for them. Vail has 3 major cities covered in the midwest.

Im thinking a peak to peak lift from the terrain park summit to the summit of stateline, also they expand into the highly poached gander BC. Maybe a mountaintop eatery at the top of exhibition?

that would be amazing maybe just a little over the top but still amazing. The Gander BC could be fun then you can really ski in the state of IL.

My family buys epic passes every year so I won't have to pay and my Grandpa owns a house in the next town over so every weekend for free I'll b up there

I just find it weird why a company would want a 200 ft mountain... It will be awesome to see the lifts, lodge, and snow-making change. I am scared about the vibe of the mountain changing... I really liked the whole empty mountain to myself and it being open till 11pm every night. I guess I just don't ant the good things at Wilmot to dissapear

The park has been getting better because the crew is becoming more creative... So I hope the employees stay the same. The pass now is going to be more expensive I'm sure and the crowds will come now it is owned by a CO Company. Are we going to have to pay for parking?

I am very curious to see how this turns out and have very mixed feelings about this whole situation
