Vail Life

Moving out to Vail from Northern Minnesota for this upcoming season. Im looking for some idea of what life in Vail is about to offer. Looking to hear what I can expect, some advice or really anything about living in Vail and the mountain.

^ pretty spot on, the only thing I would add is a strict police force. Vail is a cool place though for real, I just don't really consider a long-term place to live for most people. Unless of course your name is Warren Buffet or Bill Gates.

As of now I'll only be there for a season, luckily I was able to get into employee housing. It makes housing cost much more affordable.

Vails terrian is sick. I'm not too found of the management of the company.

If they give you the option of choosing your work days, work Weekends (hear me out) that way you miss the weekend warrior Denver crowd and you can ski with less people on week days. As a 5 year Colorado lifty veteran I highly recommend this technique if possible.

That be said, do you need a ride west this season? If so click here.

spent 2 seasons grooming there. only skied Blue Sky once. So Much amazing terrain there. What are you going to be doing for work at vail?

But yeah. People just hammer vail because it's the cool thing to do now. If you have money and aren't stupid, there's a crazy amount of terrain. I'm hyped for ya

I ended up getting an internship as a scanner lead.

Vail is not a town. It's a resort. Get ready to go broke.

No, you are wrong sir. Copper Mountain is a resort and not a town. Vail Resort is a ski resort located on the south side of the Town of Vail in the White River National Forest that is not technically in the city limits. The Town of Vail, and the greater Vail Valley (Vail, Avon, and Edwards) are great places to live, if you can afford it. There's also a great community of active young people, and some of the best year round weather in the world with a crap ton of outdoor activities that are far better than average, such as skiing, fly-fishing, whitewater rafting/kayaking, killer mountain biking, climbing, and on and on and on.

Solid waste of money and college credits

Nah actually a solid excuse to move out west for a season while making financial aid pay for it all and getting to throw something solid down on a resume. Aka great skiing, not costing me a thing, gaining some experience. I'll take it

Are you taking a loan out or are you getting a scholarship/grant money for it? There is a big difference.

Ah, nice. Getting the experience now to be a full time liftie for life after college. $100k well spent.

I think I heard El Sabor might not be doing $3 you-call-it tequilas this year?? But if they are, that on sunday for sure. And Northside Grab N Go for $5 burgers.

Vail is great. Good terrain parks that don't get used because it's a mountain for ski snobs or racers. And everyone thinks it's such a stuck up mountain and they hate on it when really they're missing out the most. Crush beers on the lift, get drunk, and talk mad shit to the non-locals. It's a win-win.

Everything about it is pretty good except for being Vail/Vail resorts

I didn't know it was possible to make so many horrible decisions this early in life. Well done, sir.

You sound like a genuine loser. Who the fuck are you to tell someone what their next step in life should be.

To OP get stoked your probably going to have the funnest winter of your life. I hate when everyone just tries to follow the money, do what society does, get settled down with a job, yata yata. All about experiences were all dead in the end anyway.

ahahahahahaha you couldnt get anything other than an internship as a lifty? wtf? were you seriously underqualified for a lifty position?

You think that is something solid to put down on a resume? good. god.

This thread is hilarious. What are you going to school for (and what's your end game)? I'm just very confused how you could think that being a lifty intern (also - TIL: that's a thing?) is a good deal, and great on your resume?

Honestly, sounds like you're very confused about how life works, realistic goals/expectations, and... you know, the more I think about it, the more I'm starting to think that I just got trolled.

You're calling me an idiot and yet you're supporting a kid spending a shit ton of money being a liftie as an intern in Vail no less.... that makes complete sense.

I should probably clear things up. My position isn't being a liftie. I'll never touch the controls or run the lift. My job title is the scanner lead which is an entry level management internship. So there's about 20 ticket scanners at Vail. I'll be managing those 20 people. It's very entry level but it gives me the opportunity to take adavantage of Vail U where I learn the ins and outs of running a resort. (Snowmaking, ski patrol, restaurant management, hotel management, ticket operations, so on and so forth) so yes entry level, but a not a lifty. Also working on a mountain and getting a free epic pass beats grabbing coffee and picking up doughnuts in some office somewhere. The end goal is to get my foot in the door and move up the ladder from there. Can't start from the top.

True but you don't have to start at the very bottom either. Vail will fuck you over, its just a matter of when... or more accurately, when you work 15 years for them and get promoted to some BS management position where you make $16/hr.

When calling people names and especially an idiot, make sure you use correct grammar. Because you currently look like a fucking idiot.

Put that in there for troll bait to you're disadvantage

And when you fail a test you were just trolling the teacher, right? Lol.

Actually yeah for one of my math teachers I would agree. Made his class average fail percentage like 70%

That actually doesn't sound too bad. Way better than lifty or regular scanner dude.

I can already predict whats gonna be the hardest part for you though. Having to manage the shitty employees. That's part of the reason I had to stop working lifts. Too many fuck heads who can't stay sober at work.

Fuck the haters. Your gonna have an awesome season.

Side note to OP: I will trade you Aspen passes for Vail passes this season. I Haven't ridden Vail yet and I want to.
