Using tv for 2nd Display on Mac?

you definitely can, they make mini-display port (aka thunderbolt) to HDMI or DVI. I use DVI it works great, HDMI works well too and is easier, they'll pretty much look the same though.

Only thing you need to realize is that its a TV, not a display, so the pixel density is lower and the image wont look as good unless you're like 10ft away from it. Just something to think about.

Hahah I do this with the 42" TV in my living room when I'm editing with people. It's so fun to use.

You don't need to buy one from apple, but i also wouldn't buy the cheapest either.

Don't buy cheap. Good connections are worth it.

Also, beware of the difference in color between displays. My LCD saturates the hell out of everything. Specifically loves the color red.
