Use this thread to say everything bad about Vail

Okay here we go, this is what I’ve collected so far by talking to former employees, and angry regulars.

- Can’t buy a beer and a shot anymore. One at a time

- They won’t put the game on the tvs on Sunday so ppl don’t sit and watch/spread covid.

- Last years reservation system was a nightmare. How am I supposed to know when I wanna go skiing?

- They’re downsizing our terrain parks like crazy.

- You need a reservation to eat at a fucking table.. “when would you like a seat?” “Uhh how about right the fuck now?? This $20 hamburger is getting colder by the second”

- $30 Paid parking were it used to be free

- They laid off mad park crew in a real shitty way

- Local schools can’t ride for free/discount anymore, meaning it doesn’t pay to live in a ski town anymore, and ski teams don’t get the hook up.

- They’ve done nothing to fix one of the most popular lifts at big Boulder for 2 years now, and gutted their legendary terrain parks and awesome park staff

- They abuse the work visa shit, no locals can afford to work there, or just scrape by.

and my personal favorite, they poached our best season pass “The Drifter Pass” and then eye gouged the prices by double during the pandemic. A time when their valued customers were down on their knees financially, they punched us right in the gut.

Mother FUCK Vail. If u ever seen a lil yellow FUCK VAIL sticker at a newly owned vail resort, that’s me. I make those and tee shirts/hoodies lol hmu

Too cheap to make snow when our season easily could’ve been longer.

the wage was well below livable, causing them to have a pretty bad employee shortage, creating a shitload of problems at the resorts.

Our park crew had to use their own money to finish a rail

“ThErEs A wOrK sHoRtAgE” HOW ABOUT PAY PEOPLE A LIVABLE WAGE MO FUCKA?! That phrase irks me so much. Scumbags

I think people are being too biased towards vail these days. Theyre no different than Alterra. Yeah, maybe Alterras pass structure is less centralized than Vails with some resorts still needing a full 2k pass to ski, but now the Ikon passes are becoming more expensive than the cheaper Epic option along with the fact that you get fucked over on black out dates no matter which pass you choose. Both companies are shit. Vail might have been more conservative in terms of wages, but in recent months have been steadily increasing wages. I guess one difference between the two conglomerates is individual resort culture. You go to any Vail property and theyre the exact same. You go to an Alterra property and the place still feels different from one another. Winter Park and Steamboat IMO are way different from one another, but if I go to Breck, Keystone, or Vail, they seem run very similarly from one another. Not to mention the dreaded yellow jackets. Whats the point of marketing a business to people if you can blindly take away their pass for skiing faster than you. Seems like a poor customer experience. I almost got my pass pulled for simply slowing down on a run that they told me to only to be told I was spraying him. Give me a fucking break.

I don't really feel that way at all. Big corporste ski areas are what they are and the conglomerates also.

I liked working for aspen aki co before alterra was a thing. Vail has always felt pretty shot at various mtns.

Felt alterra at least tries to care or pretends to.

Vail only jist raise wages up really. They haven't been leading anything there. Sure they raised their min before alterra did but alterra was going up too.

Vail will suck the soul out of a place faster and not even preten to care about the employees.

Vail is all about stripping a place to nothing. One size fits all policies. They moved all their HR to beoomfield so that if you had any problems you had to wait on hold for an hour or so.

There's so much fuckery. Also they were stealing our wages from paid lunches the last two years I worked for them.

Idk corporate vives are wierd. Also have seen some really sketchy poorly run smaller places.

Vail is killing off terrain parks pretty fast. I've only worked at one Alterra but our parks are actually growing.

Their passes are a better deal than the drifter now. Northeast pass for $500 or $360 for college student. Drifter pass being pulled is literally the least damaging thing vail has done. Drifter was a good deal but fuck the 18-29 age limit on that, I'd take vails options any day over what peak offered. I'd hate vail more if peak wasn't fucking shit up before them, literally the only good thing peak had was parks.

It was 350 for the drifter, now it’s 500 and going up this next season idk how that’s better… and I’m a park skier so that’s why i miss my peak pass

Fuck POWDR Corp too. They have have been slowly fucking over my local mountain over the past years. I have no experience with Vail but seems like all the resort conglomerates are shitty.
