It starts in like 15 minutes on Mun2 (or MunDos, or whatever you want to call it, it's a mostly-english Telemundo subsidiary...kinda cool)
anyway, it's channel 239 on my Comcast, i imagine it's the same most places
anyone gonna watch? should be a good match...Rafa Marquez is out and we're running our A team again, so the USA finally have a chance of winning in Mexico and pretty much punching their ticket to the World Cup...meanwhile Mexico is in the shitter and really needs to win pretty much every remaining match to qualify, so hopefully we smoke them
oh, and please don't reply to this thread if all you're going to do is shit on soccer/the US nat'l team...please

Ive only got basic cable so Im wathcing the half hour on ESPN and then wil sit on the computer and look at GameCast or something to keep me updated

Pretty pissed its not on tv

yah we've never beaten them at Azteca stadium, the place is insane, like 105 thousand people can fit in there and there's crazy smog apparently
anyway yah ill post scoring updates and whatnot if yall want since i guess it's not on tv
personally, i think a win today at Mexico against a desperate Mexican team in front of so many evil fans would be an even more powerful statement of the much-improved quality of American soccer than even the Spain win and the 3-2 final against Brazil a few weeks ago
here come the national anthems

9th minute, Donovan is bringing it up the middle and spots Davies level with the Mexican defensive line and sends a perfect thru-ball right as Davies springs for the far post
Davies makes his first touch perfectly toward goal and runs onto it, touches it once more to set it up just as the Mexican defenders begin to catch up, and bends a perfectly slotted ball around the Mexican keeper into the back of the net from just inside the penalty area.
Fucking amazing...Davies is the shit
USA 1-0 Mexico

Ugh, 19th minute, USA has been playing too much defense the last couple minutes, not really pushing forward with much effort, Castro manages to get open about 10 yards above the USA box and receives a pass from the motherfucker Blanco...he has all day to set up the shot and cranks it...it looks like Howard has a chance on it but it goes just over his fingers and hits the post and manages to deflect into the goal...juuuuust barely
USA 1-1 Mexicans
USA seem to have woken up though, let's see if we can bag another one before halftime, im gonna go get a sandwich

27th minute...Onyewu takes an accidental handball when one of the Mexicans kicks a jump ball into his face
yellow card
Onyewu misses the next match on aggregate yellows

29th minute, Barrett goes after Dos Santos who's making a run along our 18 yard box and chops his legs out from under him
yellow card, resulting corner produces no goals, Dos Santos' legs remain able to carry him...fuck
USA needs to get it back together or at least hold out til halftime
I dont really know why the started Ching over Altidore, and im kinda pissed Ricardo Clark is still in the USA starting lineup

I was sitting there thinking the same thing, on both of those.

Bocanegra gets a bullshit yellow as well. Seems like Confederations Cup all over again.

well im trying to remember the rule here, since i once heard that an 8-passenger SUV was caught crossing the border with like 35 people in it, so i think it's closer to like 350 thousand or more...
Anyway, Halftime, still 1-1

Come on boys! Playin alright though, love to see more defensive pressure in the midfield and better composure there too... But over all, not a bad half. Where is Altidore? Nothing against Ching, but I think Jose deserves the start.

The announcer just said that they're saving Altidore for the 2nd half so they can have speed off the bench, which makes sense because Ching is a pretty slow guy to have a sub when you need a burst after the half...the Ching/Davies pairing makes sense for now because Ching will have an advantage on headers and is a good possession forward while Davies is more of a blitzer
personally, though, i feel like they should just go ahead and bring Stuart Holden up and at least have him as a regular sub, he could easily be one of our best players and it all starts with getting regular sub opportunities...he'll bag goals like crazy if they give him some 2nd half starts
we need more backup strikers besides Ching and Conor "Lazy" Casey though, and i feel like Holden could be a good striker because our midfield is relatively solid already

For US Soccers sake at least it wasnt as bad as the goal cup defeat, but this once again shows that the US is decades behind in the true game of football. It is going to take years or maybe a decade before the youth programs and the MLS become strong enough to provide the national team with enough quality players to change the world super powers in south america and europe.

It's the Gold Cup, and we aren't "decades" behind. I think we're ranked 13th in the world or something - and I wouldn't consider Mexico a super power.

I also hear Estadio Azteca is a borderline impossible place to play
Mexico has only lost one world cup qualifier there in 70 years
and yeah, decades is an improper conclusion to draw, but i do think we're probably 10 years from where we need to be to not be considered underdogs any time we play anyone

If you think about it the US should be a super power and since the us is not it shows that they are still decades behind.

Mexico deserved to win. We were completely outplayed. Mexico had possession 3/4ths of the time. Good match though.
Anyone know why the 2 mexican players freaked out at Onweyu towards the end of the match after Onweyu and some Mexican player slid out of bounds?

we take great leaps forward every time we have a good showing in any major tournament though
also, 5 years ago none of my friends were even aware of any overseas teams, now pretty much everyone has a favorite club and even owns a couple jerseys
so the popularity is there, the main thing we need is a breakout USA star to emerge overseas
the other main thing we need is for our country's super-athletes to realize they can make bajillions of dollars playing soccer anywhere in the world, because that's why pretty much every major athlete plays past college. it's not obvious now because the MLS isnt super high paying yet, but it will gradually become apparent...plus it's a cheap sport to get into, so it will end up being like basketball cause all you need is a ball pretty much

They thought it was a corner kick, and that Onyewu was wasting time. It was actually a goal kick, and he was bringing the ball to Howard. Castillo even put his hands on Onyewu, and the ref didn't do shit.

I wish Onyewu jacked him up.

yeah, shit officiating, here's the best quickie rundown ive seen of that part of the match:

im from texas, so i pretty much hate mexicans more than anyone, they're lazy as hell and just suck up all of our resources...i wouldnt say im a racist, just more of a nationalist, and none of these assholes who sit around collecting welfare even claim the US as their sovereign nation, which is the biggest bullshit of all
but if you want racism, ask ANY person from ANY other central or south american country...they hate mexicans waaaaaaaaaaay way way more than any of us do, and they'll give you some really awesome reasons for it
