US Supreme Court overturns campaign spending limit

terrible idea, whether you are conservative or liberal. its just another excuse for special interests and lobbyists to get far too much power on the hill. the people should be dictating legislation, not corporations.

It has finally happened. It has been coming for a long while. Now i will not pay attention to the news and move to Canada whenever possible. Now politics which, basically for awhile have been whoever has the most money or the best backing of big corporations gets to run the country will in fact be completely that. all political positions will become available to the highest bidder and there is nothing we can do about it.

Sure we can try too vote against the candidate who excepts all the contributions, but, to a certain extent all the front runners of any political campaign will have been bought, they will no longer have values that are good for the people (few have this now anyways) they will only value whatever huge conglomerate is sponsoring them tells them too.

Overall i am really disappointed in not just Obama but almost every political representative of our country, there may be a few exceptions but in reality no one becomes a senator for the good of people (or at least very few do) they do it for the money, for the prestige, they do it to make themselves feel better than other people.

GOOD! The McCain-Feingold campaign finance law was a travesty, such an infringement on free political speech. Good thing the Supreme Court grew some balls and went with the constitutionally correct decision here.

that's a good point, and it's why the law was overruled, but this is only gonna further big corporations reach into the government. shit could get ugly in this country

shit is already ugly in this country.

When government seeks to use its full power, including

the criminal law, to command where a person may get his or her

information or what distrusted source he or she may not hear, it uses

censorship to control thought. This is unlawful. The First Amendment confirms the freedom to think for ourselves.” -Justice Anthony Kennedy

I don't know Kennedy's politics, nor do I care. In the above statement, he has done his job and done it damn well.

people are fucking idiots. both sides are supported heavily so this wouldn't change anything if it was passed. fucking hippies.

exactly. i dont like it, but its really not THAT different, its just much more out in the open now.

I listened to a 5 minute news clip, instead of examining the decision and coming up with my own conclusions I'm going to blindly side with whatever party I voted for in the last election.

people are getting all pissed about this, it doesnt really matter. politicians were just finding ways around it before

its all scott browns fault. First the DJI drops for three days straight and now THIS. god he sucks at being a senator...
/sarcasm

but really this is a non-issue. who cares who walmart or mcdonalds supports. if you have any intelligence in the first place you would not let these special interests sway your decisions. the real issue is that most american's don't have any political principles that they stick too and they are too fickle to be consistent politically. without looking primarily at what party you support, instead think of what core values you believe in and then see where you fall in the political spectrum.
