Urban Rails ruin skis?

So I've asked this before, but it was in the middle of another thread.

Questing is: Will urban rail ruin your fresh K2 Domain skis, IF the Rail is perfectly shaped with no sharp edges or whatever that might crack your ski surface open and there is snow around it, so that I won't land on concrete?

I have tried to get my hands on some used skis, but it's rather hard where I'm from since I don't live in a ski society.

Picture of the Rail:

I suck so I don't know how display the image...

it will, but really, skis are way tougher than you think. if theres snow around and you dont do anything like land on gravel or sharp shit, theyll be relatively ok. they might get a lil scratched up, but most times a good grind and ptex job will make um look like new. its definitely a good idea to have resort and beater skis, but you should be fine on that thing if you wanna hit it with those skis.

any rail weather urban or not is gonna scratch your skis. Honestly who gives a shit if your skis gotta couple scratches it just shows your a hard skier. just dont land on concrete done it before it sucks

If you are worried about wrecking your skis on urban, then get a cheap pair you dont care if they get chipped/scrathed etc.

ya not so much the rail, the concrete and stairs you ride on, not to mention if you fall on an edge, so unless your getting free skis or are loaded your gonna go through a couple pair of skis by hitting a lot of urban.

I don't fuck up! I fuck down! I was mostly worried about the landing not so much the rail. A few scratches here n there is no big deal. I just want to keep these skis atleast two seasons because im not made of money, yet. Thanks for all the response:)

Yawn. Dumb question is dumb.

Yes... putting metal anything into contact with another metal something usually means that one of the metal somethings or anythings is going to become damaged eventually. The end.

Welcome to park skiing. Invest in a 2nd pair...

And I thought I was free to ask any damn question I had about skiing without people like you calling me an "idiot". I thought this site's forum was about helping eachother and sharing ideas. Next time do NOT say anything if you can't say anything nice.

Haha. You're free to ask whatever you want... I'm just pointing out the

fact that... dude... its METAL ON METAL. Use your head homie! Edges don't usually break for no reason, now do they?

Plus... this is the internet. AND it's newschoolers... brutal^2.

PS: I might have just quickly scanned this thread... but i didn't catch

the word ''idiot'' being used anywhere in it... specifically not from me lol.

haha, seriously. my urbans have seen literally thousands of stairs, miles of grass skiing, rock jibs, sword fights, ect... and as long as they slide who gives a fuck?

"BETTER SAFE THEN FUCKING SORRY!" Det her handler bare om at være fucking sikker ikke noget andet. Kan godt se nu når jeg læser mit thread igen at det lyder som om at det er selve rail jeg er bekymret om men det er som sagt landingen.

For.. dunno... Tredje gang? Jeg stiller de her spørgsmål for at være HELT sikker på at de går godt, og der er ikke noget bedre sted end her at spørge. Jeg ved hva fuck jeg har gang i.

if you need to ask that question I don't think your at this skill level to be sliding a rail like that yet. just an observation. I could be way off.

As I just told my Danish fellow. I just want to be sure I don't ruin my skis since I got no damn money and my parents can't really help me with that problem... Don't want to mess up a new pair of skis which i have spent alot of time getting my hands on.

it's really not that stupid a question, obviously metal and concrete arent good for your skis but with no experience i can see why you wouldnt know how extensive the damage will be

personally i just use my regular skis, though ive never been known for taking great care of my equipment. if you do use your regular skis though, put more snow down than you normally would. a lot of street rails i hit (well, have hit.. havent hit a street rail in a while) im too lazy to put down any more snow than absolutely necessary, but if youre worried about your skis make a nice run out for yourself

thats true for any two objects hitting each other

although metal on metal in engines work pretty well for a long time lol

you'll be fine man

that doesnt counter my point whatsoever. Think about it, if you need to ask if an urban rail will ruin your skis, you probably aren't ready to tackle any urban rail yet. Before attempting an urban set up, let alone that rail you just showed us, you should have extensive experience sliding rails and boxes in the park at a resort. If you had that experince you would know that ALL rails damage skis, its the price paid to participate in freestyle skiing.

Yeah I know skiing damage your skis. Basicly what I was wondering was if the landing without prober snow would to'ally fuck my skis. Got my answer and it's all good. Also I am planning to film everything from first hit till last so i can view my progression, see what I do wrong/right and seek advice. I am stoked about this and I am 100% ready for this

Not true at all. haha.
There's a little thing known as MOTOR OIL that separates engine parts, or at least mitigates friction. if your engine isnt lubed and oiled and shit, then you're engine has about 4 mins until it blows up.
As far as I know, theres no real way to lube edges...

DingoSean = god.

that rail is soooo sick! i got so excited when i saw the picture. even if it would ruin your skis who wouldn't hit that? its like a blackout drunk megan fox just sitting there all alone. For god sakes man hit that!!

Don't be a pussy skis are meant to be ridden just do it, you can always fix any damage.

Get a core shot = petex stick

Pull and edge = epoxy and clamps

Minor scratches on the base = wax

nah, just like you said, its like how you wax your skis. the excess wax is scraped off the rail in the first couple hits, but its the wax that has settled into the pores of the metal that counts. I can wax my summer setup once before each session and it stays slick for 100 or more hits. (steel rails)

You do understand how wax works dont you?

wax =/= motor oil lol.

Try motor oil next time actually... it would probably work awesomely if you dont care about your bases haha.
