If you have not already seen, Urban Outfitters has stirred up some controversy with one of their "vintage" pieces of clothing.

Here is a thread on what "vintage" means for urban outfitters.
https://www.newschoolers.com/forum/...tters-reselling-yard-sale-clothes-as--Vintage

So now people are pissed that they are selling a worn out sweatshirt that is faded and looks like it has "bloodstains" on it. The massacre happened in 1970, everyone that is at Kent State now was not even alive then, except for some faculty and maybe a non traditional student or two. Here is a link to one of the numerous articles on it.

fuck urban outfitters.

but would you say the same if they made an Auschwitz sweater... not too many people from Auschwitz are around any more; your logic is fucking dumb... If you do something like this with any tragedy people will get mad no matter what

its funny because they made a shirt with the what resembled the star in jews had to wear during ww2

both are tasteless, this one even more. The star one i will accept as an honest mistake, but this one is far to much to just be a coincidence

Fuck them. The second they sold a shirt telling girls to "eat less" i was done with them. They'll do anything to stay relevant.

well shit... I dont pay any attention to that flamer hipster brand so I wasnt aware of that. they need to stop mixing their wine coolers and starbucks in the design room

The real problem is that there are idiots out there that payed $130 for a sweatshirt that has holes in it.

i think their new logic is exploiting the "sad truth" in todays modern world and labeling it "cool" and hipster. in my opinion urban outfitters is dumb as hell and should just stick to making clothes rather than statements. never bought anything from there, probably never will.

I like that, a lot of girls (and guys) really need to take that advice.

maybe anybody who isn't a sociopath

so not showing interest in some dumb news story that really shouldn't even be a story to begin with makes me a sociopath? gotcha.

no the fact that you can not feel empathetic towards the people who saw the country at one of its lowest points means you are a sociopath. In fact, that is pretty much the definition of sociopath. A normal person sees something like the sweatshirt and feels empathy because on top of the 4 shot the hundreds of thousands who lost trust in our government and the unknown number who died in vietnam. It is fine to say you don't think it is worthy of news... thats debatable but to say who cares. Lots of people do. To say things like who gives a fuck? Pretty much anyone in the US alive in the 70's or anyone who doesn't want the government murdering college students. Generally a normal persons reaction to someone mocking a tragedy is to feel emotional. Not having any emotional response means the person did not feel empathy which clinically means they are either a sociopath or psychopath. I believe in this case sociopath was a better fit.

Thank you board certified psychologist, personality disorders are actually a very hard thing to diagnose and we don't know a lot about them. but I like how you immediately jump to your diagnosis then shove that diagnosis into a box seal it up and locked away the key. I think I like 4 kids got shot on a college campus during this tragedy, I didn't know them and I don't know much about the tragedy therefore I really don't care.

The sweatshirt represents the National Guard being called upon to control American civilians. The sweatshirt almost shows the proudness of the situation imo. That's not very hipster.

The term hipster gets thrown around way too much. We're all fucking hipsters, face it.

but the fact that you refer to it as a tragedy means you can somewhat aknowedge it isn't something that should be mocked. I'm not saying we all have to feel like we were there or knew the people who were killed. My point is just that shit like this is fucked up and not something to be mocked for profit
