So theres this urban hop on at my hill and whenever I hit it I usually get my tips caught and eat shit. How can I learn to hop on it and get my confidence up? Theres a kink rail that I can hop onto fine...but the downrail is much taller...any tips?

make sure you have a wide stance coming into it than pop. not much else you can do except pop hard and bring your knees in afterwards. also watch somone who can slide it well get on and follow their tracks in, might help a little.

good luck im sure you will get it.

skate/urban style jump ons are hard. they take a while to get, adn arent one of th obvious skills that pros flaunt, ro show offf, even though the ability to do skate style rails is just as important. there are two different ways to go about doing a skate style hop on:

1. go into the lip SLIGHTLY from the side, not exactly parrallel. the trick with this method, is that when you jump on, you must land slightly back, so that the last of your momentum is used to push you up onto the rail, thus bending the direction of your momentum from slightly sideways to straight down the rail. then flaten out and ride the rail normally.

*to remember - this method is hard to perfect, and i guarantee you hours of hitting down rails adn sliding of teh other side until you get the perfect amount of tilt. most of my friends use this method. i find it is more commonly used ...

2. the trick with method 2 is to go at teh rail PERFECTLY parrallel. this is harder than you think, as you automatically turn off the lip unconciously. what helps me with this, is trying to carve sightly away from the lip. but what feels like away is actually parrallel.

*to remember - this method is more consequencial: it is more likey you will land less then 90 degrees, look un-steezy, and worst case scenario... castration! i like this method better, but find whatever works for you.

+k if this helped

oh haha answerd wrong question.

here it is. you problem may be that you are spinning to early. if so, try to do a shifty on. your poblem may be that you are not popping hard enough, which is much more likely. is so, practice popping a bit away from the rail. skiing down a run, jump as high as you can... train those muscles! when you're feeling pretty good about yourself, ski up to the rail, and do what all teh noobs do: ski off teh side, parrallel to the rail. have a freind look on from the side. ask him if you woulda made it on. if so, GREAT!

at some point though, maybe if no one hits it, it has been left unattended a while by the park crew. if so, it may be unrideable, and i may have explained all this shit to a perfectly competent park rider, but if the rail even looks half good, its probably rider error.

good luck bud!

the more speed the better. a little angle from the side is good but just know the more you angle yourself on the less distance there is between your tips and the rail. going on more parallel will help you clear your tips more easily. or if its way too tall just step 1 by 1 foot onto it

yeah but this looks really bad. just come into it at a slight angle, pop, shifty a little to let your skis clear and keep your eye on the end of the rail. once you have the getting on part you just have to make minor adjustments to you weight to be able to stay on

true, im not a big fan of it either, but i guess it works for some people. its not a good habit to get into in the long run

ive been told to pop down the rail and not onto it; just come up with a good amount of speed, pop and jump onto the rail but going downwards, not parallel. i find it easier to stay on like this.
