I live in Marquette and attend school at Northern. I've been getting kinda sick of just riding park at MM so I had a question for everyone out there.
Does anyone know some great spots to ride back country in the UP? I know all about Bohemia and the Porkies cat service, but I want some hike in mountains that have awesome glades, cliffs, anything.. Any help is really appreciated.
Thanks!

whitetail ridge

if you take CR 510 north guys go out there touring/overnighting out there. but by midwinter you need a sled.

honestly, if you have four wheel drive, just go poke around north of town. its the UP after all, theres always gems hidden in the trees

Where is Whitetail Ridge on 510? I'm looking for it on a few maps with no success.
Thanks for the advice!

it's not an "official" name. wont be on the map. go talk to the guys at Downwind. they have local topos there

Take a look at USGS topo maps or terrain option on google maps, pretty easy to see vert and access.Keweenaw,Hurons, remember hiking two hills NW of mqt years ago. Sugarloaf and some other one with a long approach. Not much of a difference between nice glades and thick ass woods in da UP

I had friends who had some spots in Neguanee... but I was never informed on where they were, they kept it a secret.

yea, i used to go to school over there. lots of intense mini-golf lines. not bad with all the snow they get that way

I'm up at MTU and have found some stuff around canyon falls that's pretty fun to hike into, but the topo ideas is a good one, just look for spots off roads that are less traveled and there's some cool stuff right around Marquette Mountain too.

There's amazing shit all over Marquette County, you just need to get in your car and drive around to find it. There's actually some fun lines off the back of Hogsback and Sugarloaf. Happy hunting.
