Upgrading to FCP X

Hey Newschoolers,

So I am an avid user of final cut pro 7 and absolutely love it. I have held off upgrading to Final cut pro 10 due to lack of features, but i have heard thanks to several updates that has improved a lot and even maybe have surpassed the greatness of FCP 7.

Has anyone here upgraded yet, or have any opinions on the topic?

FCP X is a downgrade from FCP 7, it is alot less professional and is basically just a version of iMovie with a couple added features. Most people that I know have made the switch to Adobe Premiere. CS6 has a very nice UI and has basically all the features that most people will ever need. I would suggest going to that.

just started looking into adobe premier pro cs6, sounds amazing and also looks like it is very similar to FCP 7 but a lot more optimised for powerful computers. Is it similar to FCP 7?

As I understand it, in order to fully utilize CS6's processing you basically need a PC, or at least the newest Mac in order to see a marked improvement over FCP7 performance-wise. Someone correct me if I'm wrong...

Even though it gets a lot of flack, I'm really curious to try FCPX. Premiere's UI pisses me off to no end...

Cs6 really benefits from gpu acceleration, so if you have a mac (or pc) with amd graphics, you won't have the CUDA acceleration with the mercury playback engine. There's also a lot of other differences, I'm pretty sure its just faster in general than fcp 7, but not completely sure. You can google for some threads comparing their speed and stuff too. But as far as UI premiere cs6 and fcp are really almost the same. Pretty much any editing program is going to be not too hard to pick up. I like the simplicity in cs6 a lot better than cs5 also, and it has a few other good features as well. Try the free 30 day demo.

I am probably gonna make the switch to premiere pro CS6, cause i have been using after effect CS6 and rendering has been so much faster with GPU acceleration. And by dynamic linking it, i can easily work on projects within both programs without exporting it. I also recently got a highest end lat 2012 retina display so i should be good performance wise.

already switched and loving it, though i have changed my workspace so that it closely resembles final cut pro 7. 626712.png
