Unnecessary Worry.

Sooo as a newer member, I’ve noticed one of the topics that’s come up most here is the death, “end”, limit, etc., of skiing. Like an non proportional amount of posts are about this.

Personally, I think it’s bullshit. The only issue should be exposing more beginners to the sport, and keeping them involved. While growing the sport like this inevitably results in more commercialization, it’s a bit apocalyptic to think that this ends all innovation on the non-competition end. They’re never going to be a large amount of pros, that’s just a thing that doesn’t happen in most sports, but I think too many people are expecting to spin and get paid.

The point is, the sport is “dying” or whatever as lit as you keep saying it’s dying. We should be trying to get as many people to fall in love with and appreciate the sport like we do. This is literally just as simple as inviting your cousins from Wyoming or wherever out to your mountain for a weekend, or trying to get a youth program going say a smaller mountain. Push for night-skis, jam nights, that kind of shit. Resorts don’t give a shit about websites, and they only give a slightly bigger shit about real people, so I would go with the more effective option, and get a foot in the non-digital door of wherever you’re skiing. Just my two cents

People that say the sport is dying are the grumpy assholes of NS who don't like the direction the sport is going. Personally it drives me crazy. Ski how you want. Unless your living is on the line as a pro or something, cool the fuck off.

Skiing is here to stay. Honestly the real tragedy is how much the sport costs. Sure you can do it cheap but fuck those goodwill skis, and not everyone is lucky enough to find a good deal. I was sitting on the lift the other day, contemplating, adding up the total value of my ski gear in my head and it blew my mind. Don't get me started on lift tickets. Fugggggggg

The biggest threat to skiing is that in 20 years it’s not gonna snow in America anymore and we’re all gonna have to move to canadia

skiing is about having your own style. thats right, ski however you like. i like new wave, but things that worry me are that comp skiing and sponsored athletes aren't rewarded on style. Look at Jake Carney, one of the most stylish skiers in de game right now, makes everything look easy and skied in some of the most liked edits here on NS. He s only a ambassador of K2, and dragon alliance or something. The guy gets nothing while somebody like Andri Ragettli has 6 sponsors (not to hate on ragettli but the guy doesn't have most style points in the game)

idk bruh, with global warming n shit im kinda shook for the future of good snow in places like NH, VT, east coast

Oh I completely agree with that. I was referring to OP talking about new waves and styles and industry ruining skiing types of threads.

Nothing wrong with skiing. The industry is fine. Everything you see is in relation to fanboys crying that their favorite D level pro, who can barely be bothered to jump off their no-board for 5 seconds to drop an instagram featuring their ski sponsor, being on flow, and not collecting huge paychecks.
