Unlocking an iPhone

Right, so I unlocked my iPhone a while ago, but then there was a software update and it wiped the unlock that I did.
SO
I can't remember how I did it, there was a really good website that I found, can't for the life of me find it now, anyone got any ideas?
In the future, what do you do to avoid losing the 'unlocking' when you update the firmware?

if you need to jail break again id go with ziphone.org. Its got the software that alot of download sources have. I havent used it in a while, but when I did it worked pretty well. If i remember right you can download the new firmware through the ziphone program. Yeah, so good luck
 
ziphone.org and i don't think you can update with the unlock because it will continue to erase everything. Apple really doesn't like 3rd party shit lol
