Had the most depressing night last night. I received AEO status for the Ivey HBA program 3rd and 4th year so all I needed was an acceptance for BMOS at western. Got my rejection letter last night. So stupid how I can go to a very good business program but not get accepted into a social science that only has a higher cuttoff avg because of the amount of really book smart asians who apply for it. So depressed right now. So looks like Laurier will be my school, unless I get my admission appealed.
Right now im trying to get into BMOS for kings or hurron university college so that I can get AEO status. Hope this works out! wish me luck! What do you do at western cluckacluck?
I live near uwo. it's nice, lots of asians there so you'll fit in.
they have a dope track. tons of cool urban stuff on the campus but unless it's in a fairly hidden place the campus popo will bust you. but the campus popo doesn't really give a fuck they just kick you out cause it's they're job so they're nice about it.
i know a few people who go there and say it's a good school.
rated #4 party school in north america by playboy.
yeah cobble is for sale they're not opening anymore cause they had such a garbage season.
this is where we ski.http://bolermountain.com/index.php it's kind of a joke but the park crew has really stepped it up in the last couple years. next year is going to be much better because we've got a whole bunch more jibs built and apperently we're getting an airbag next season too. plus they gave us more park space and we've got more skiers on the park crew now.
but if you have a car it's 3 or 3.5 to collingwood depending on the day
like and hour and 15 min from glen eden which is sometimes worth going to
dagmar and lakeridge are like 2 or 2.5 hours
louis is almost 4 hours I think but i can't remember
Alright I guess I'll be going to Boler alot. I'm used to going to tiny local mountains (glen eden) so it wont be that bad. Ill just hit up all the nicer places on holidays.
Not to discourage you, but Boler is awful. Their rails are all a thousand years old and setup fairly poorly. The flat down box is fun for learing, but it makes glen eden look like whistler
this is true, but if your just looking to kill a few hours after school then its not that bad, there building and or buying a bunch of new jibs for this season and suposedly expanding the park, I usaully ride there during the week, then go elsewhere on weekends. Call me out if you ski during the day, im usually the only skiier in the park.
but trust me, if we get more than 2 days of snow this season, the park will end up being about 5x better than it has been in the past.
plus at boler we don't need to get our features approved by the kelso park rangers like at glen eden, or whatever the fuck they had going on there last year.
you will have to transfer a few times but 9c whitehills -> 17 oxford W -> then either walk a few blocks up or transfer to 5 springbank will bring you to front enterance.
you could get a crew together and just hit urban on campus. the campus popo will boot you out but it doesn't matter because theres like 10 features good every square km. and they're pussies anyways.
There's ton's of good urban on and around campus for sure. Boler is definitely not a highlight but in reality its better than nothing so thats a plus I guess. There's an absolutely epic downrail into the stadium area from western road that I'm sure you'll see once you get here, pretty much the best thing on campus by far. In your first year your probably not likely to find a lot of the off campus stuff unless you have your own car, but maybe your more adventurous than I was.
Overall its a dope school but the ski scene isn't huge as far as I've seen. pretty much the only time i've seen skiers was when I was wearing Voleruz on campus, or saw some guy with a momentum backpack and Jiberish on in the UCC one day.
Enjoy it man, and if your a main campus student and get Saugeen... It's not bad, fucking party central if you want it to be, especially the tight 'n bright and ABC parties. if your not main campus, get yourself into Saugeen for those nights, insanity.
Sounds awesome man, I will definitely try to get into those parties.
I think i'm going to try to start a ski club. We'll see how many people will take interest in it. I figure I might as well try. McMaster has a sweet club that is sponsored by Voleurz and redbull i think and other things. They have rail jams on campus using scaffolding drop ins. I think that if we can get a decent amount of skiers, (tons of students so there should be some, right?) It could be a pretty sweet club. Im not exactly a very good park skier but I am down to run the club with its paperwork and other logistics.
Anyone here tht goes to western think they have some interest in it?
Alright ill be there saturday morning (if i can figure out the bus route). I'll be wearing a moment blue and black jacket and blue pants. Got a moment sticker and a OG NS sticker on my helmet. HOLLLA ATCHA BOYYY.
Park is decent. As of yesterday, small box, small fd rail, small jump, fd box, small rail, a mellow sort of down rail, two good sized jumps, a long handrail, and I didn't really check it out but looks like a wallride with a small jump at the bottom.
and DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY AT COBBLE, I stupidly went 2 weeks ago cause some friends were going. Their "park" is like a fucking obsticle coarse to try and hit anything( jump, mailbox, home made shit rail thing)Every thing is so close together that the groomer can't even get in. Jump wasn't that bad looking but it's hard to get speed for cause there was a unhittable kinked rail blocking the in run. I could honestly probably have more fun riding down the stairs in my basement then skiing cobble.
If you see a couple of instructors in the park they're probably my buddies. I'd ride with you but I hurt my knee a couple weeks ago so I'm out for the season.
and to the guy asking about the park,
never go to cobble, ever.
right now there's a ~40ft stepdown, probably a bit smaller now I haven't been out there for a week, and the bigger jump at the bottom just opened today, was going to be a 55ft stepup but I haven't seen it or heard much, apparently there's some speed issues with it.
other than that there are
- 2 small flat rails, I think one of them is urban style
-a long street rail they just put in
-shitty flat-down box
-small flat-down rail that's actually a lot of fun
-small flat box
-an urban style up goalpoast next to the first jump
and I heard from the park crew that they have a rail into a wallride set up but I haven't seen any picture evidence.
that's what it's like now I guess but I haven't been there since last saturday so I can't tell you what shape things are in
Did my undergrad at UWO, and I grew up riding Boler. In any case, isn't there still the Western Snowboard Federation? Back when I was a frosh I remember checking out some of their parties and there were a few skiers in with them. They also had railjams/fundraisers on University Hill if there's snow in February...
There was also an established ski club, iirc. Not entirely sure if it's still ongoing, but you might have difficulty starting a second one. Best bet is to sell it as newschool/freeski club. Might make club insurance more difficult though.
Yeah I'm in the WSF. We went to Tremblant a couple weeks ago, it was the best skiing I've ever done. They have discounts on Wednesdays but I don't have a car and taking the bus on a weekday with my gear would not be fun. I gave up on the idea of starting a club because I realized that WSF actually has skiers in it too.
So, if you guys aren't doing anything better for reading weak, I'm going to be down probably on Sunday/Monday, and looking to ride boler during the day. I'll either be rocking a bright green armada suit or last seasons line hacket w/ brown pants, and riding a pair of the older line chronics, with the purple and lime green zombie bears. As much as boler is terrible, it beats grading papers. And I'd be stoked to see other NSers out at my old stomping grounds, and catch some lifts with the people who are happy to be riding.
