University of Pittsburgh

I have NO fucking clue what the school's like, but a big black guy I play football with is going there. His name is KK Smith. He likes it, but I have no idea what it's like.

Maybe message applejuice. I think she goes there

Pittsburgh is a pretty sick campus I have alot of friends who go there and I have never heard anything bad about it come out of their mouths. Definitely check it out see if its for you. What did you get in for?

only thing about pittsburgh is the fact that the area its in is a shithole and georgetown is much better at basketball than them

Get out of town bruv, Pittsburgh is an awesome city.

Its cheap to live here, really good local food spots, not to big, bike friendly, and has a nice growing young population.

tons of kids i know go there.. they love it. Plus seven springs is pretty close = awesome park

but fuck big ben dont become a steelers fan

It sucks if you actually CARE about skiing(2 years ago 7 springs almost shut down in the middle of January..food for thought)

Other then that..

Its a cheap college filled city...nothing more..nothing less.

Public transportation sucks compared to any other real city. Biking is DECENT, but get ready to pound some hills if its your mode of transport. Out of towners seem to struggle. Looks of fun keg/drinking rides etc. Lots of good brews here too.

Dont get wrapped into the "Pittsburgh is awesome" shit. Take it for what its worth. ANY real city is going to be pretty awesome your first time through. In the end, its what you personally make of it.

PS. Oakland(where pitt is located) is like the fecal shit-mist area of Pittsburgh. Be sure to visit other areas to get a good feel. Note that Oakland is NOT in downtown Pittsburgh. And downtown Pittsburgh is currently undergoing some really rad night-life changes.

uPitt is the best!

My whole family is from pitt and I am there regularly.

The skiing is great, whoever said 7springs is questionable has never actually been there. Best snowmaking on the east coast and best riding in the state.

when you go to visit, make sure you go to the Den and get a chili cheesedog.

best drunk food ever.

if you do go for good, make sure you are ready for everything to be dirty and the girls to be slutty. thats the best part!

Probably half of my high school goes there, and all of my friends that are there love it. I've visited a few times and always had a blast. It's definitely a good school, you'd have a good time there.

I grew up in Pittsburgh.... don't live there anymore but it is an AWESOME city. Great night life all the time, it's clean, and there are jobs (comparatively speaking to other cities). Not much of a music scene unfortunately. Seven Springs and Hidden Valley are an hour away. I love Oakland, though (where the U is). It's a little college town within the city with tons of good food and good people. I can't say enough good things about Pgh. Anyone who says it's a shithole is only saying that because A. they hate the steelers or B. they've never been there and are basing it off of what it was like 40 years ago

I beg to differ.
The music scene is getting there. The Rex is bringing heaps of awesome dance music.
Designer Drugs, skrillex, 12th planet, datsik, borgore, Zeds Dead, Major Lazer, MSTRKRFT a couple years back, RJD2, flosstradamus(if your in pittsburgh, come to this show! I am opening for Flosstradamus Feb. 26th! http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=174386465936277) and i believe steve aoki rolled through a year ago or so. Its most definitely coming along better than it has been in the last couple years.

going to a high school where 90 percent of the people go to either pitt or penn state after they graduated, ive gathered from multiple sources that pitt is a more gay less fun version of psu. and personally i think the city and the people suck...but to each their own

Meh. Not too impressive. When I was growing up there were at least 4 venues that I know were closed several years ago. They might be working back up, but it's still pretty bare boned.

come on man, i love 7 springs...season pass pretty much my whole life.

how about last few weeks of straight rain to negative temps? Rock solid ice....thats mother nature..the staff does amazing work with that they are given(best park crew on the east,IMO).

I took some footage from 2 years ago skiing through the hesh park, its literatly a 6 ft wide mud trail with 2 boxes, in the middle of January. Mother natures a bitch!

When 7 springs is ON, its fucking amazing. But everything in between makes you open your eyes...its PA man..it doesnt matter! We make due with what we are given, but in the wide picture of skiing(urban & park really all we got) its pretty low on the totem pole!

Also, most of us 7 springs die-hards, are just waiting to finish school/save money to GET OUT. Some of our local faithfuls have already been successful. I am jealous :)

My opinion!

I guess. I mean I've been going to Oakland since I was very little. It really isn't bad. Honestly Pittsburgh isn't a bad city in terms of crime unless you're in very specific areas. Try living in Baltimore. I guess coming from suburbia I could see why you'd be scared, but grow some balls and immerse yourself in culture!

Pitt is real nice. You have everything you need there, southside ill for bars, oakland has mad house parties, and your an hour away from 7springs.

das whats up.

its sick, and 7springs aint far away.

got any questions let us knowww

dont bother with that aimee girl (aka applejuice) ... shes a weirdo ...

^I should buy you this shirt now, Lo.

UPitt is tight from what I understand having talked to people that went there...

been there a few times, its pretty dope. i live like 30 or 40 minutes away and love living with Pittsburgh as my home city.

sorry, i know im not a huge help, im only a junior in highschool

i'm a senior at pitt and it sounds like most of the bases have been covered by everyone else who's posted so far. but if you've got any other questions shoot me a PM.

know a bunch of people that go there n they love it, oakland where the campus is had alot of cool spot to eat or chill wide variety of people live in pittsburgh n somethings always happenin

also parties get fuckin wild

don't get me wrong, I fully understand PA and East Coast, even, for that matter. However, with Ski Roundtop being the mountain I learned to ski at 20 years ago and have been teaching at for 2 years now, I look at Seven Springs to be a 2 hour closer Vermont.

Also, if you ever think the conditions are bad at 7springs, where it is cold and has access to lake effect snow and being one of the first mountains in the PA Apps/Laurel Highlands, then please come to Roundtop =)

We would walk all over you guys(WPRC) in PARA and at J.O.s because we had the end of the year east coast conditions, all year round;)

hm....I don't think he is limited to just Pennsylvania(unless in-state tuition is just assumed a requirement, or I missed that part of the thread).

Comparing Roundtop to Springs doesnt make sense to me, if we are talking East coast in general. If we do that, then lets compare 7 springs to Placid, Jay's Peaks, Smuggs, Killy etc etc etc.....

Those comparisons are alot different then roundtop vs springs, it all sorts of aspects(pow/weather/vertical/season length/comps like rails to riches etc etc.) Can't just look at Park.

Most livable = Cheap as fuck housing in a decent city...nothing more..nothing less. Means you can be poor and get by easier then other cities. Now if you flip houses like myself, ITS A DREAM :).

I live/work/own property in Southside & Downtown. I still have no idea what the hype is about. Everything mentioned here can be found(many times better) in other east coast cities. Sports might be the ONE thing I could reconsider. But, in my mind, watching pro sports is lame as fuck, when you could be involved & actually playing them.

I still back the Steelers/Penguins...but to decide where your going live because off something like that...laughable.
