Havent seen any recent threads about UNR so thought id make one since I'm thinking of attending there next fall. Basically just wanna know if there are people that go there and like to ski a lot. Would be sick to get some info on the school, parties, skiing in tahoe, etc.

hello! I'm a freshman at nevada and live in Argenta hall.

As for skiing, it's pretty damn close to drive anywhere, mainly boreal and squaw and northstar. I'm down to ski with you if i get the free time! I grew up in the tahoe area, so i'm pretty familiar with all of the resorts and am biased... but tahoe skiing is grade a.

For the parties, I usually party every thursday night, friday night, and saturday night hahahaha i can always find parties and they're usually always fun. most house parties do get busted by the cops, but that's college house parties for you haha convenience stores near campus that sell alcohol to underage kids too. I'm also a girl so i don't have to pay to get in to parties, idk about the males of the party scene though. usually at every party i go to there is a skier, so it's pretty fun to chat it up and drink with them.

I can't say much about the academics since i've only been here for almost two semesters, but so far i really like it. yeah, you can get a shitty professor here and there, but go on ratemyprofessor.com and you can figure out who to take and who's easy.

Lets just say i've been here five years and usually ski 3 resorts on the reg and sometimes another 2 or 3 just for shits and gigs.

as for parties...ive been to some ragers and have been to some kick backs and have been to some lame ones. but im pretty sure that's how it is anywhere. but here was a pretty kick ass halloween party that one of my friends and his roommates held annually til they moved. https://vimeo.com/31347752

the school itself is legit. lots of people give unr a bad rap cuz its in reno but the campus is very nice, half of it is timeless and has a ton of history, and the other half is less than 7 years old so its awesome. they are doing a ton of new things and adding new buildings right now and will be all done with them by fall i believe.

the college has some awesome programs and it is a tier 1 university. so its sick.

oh and when you are 21, the gambling is always a great source of entertainment as long as you only spend $20 at the most and get at least 3 to 4 free drinks while sitting at the tables

To anyone who sees this and gets butthurt about "UNR" over "Nevada" Blow yourself. UNR is a great school with a bunch of great programs. Especially anything that is gonna put you in an outdoor career path. Boreal has a college pass that super cheap, cant go wrong there.. ever, especially if you ride park. Doesnt really mater where you get your pass, youre gonna see homies at the resorts, but i've definitely seen more college people at alpine on weekdays then anything else. College parties will be college parties, but when you turn 21 the casinos and bars are free range and never close... So theres that.... I've grown up in Reno/Tahoe my whole life besides a couple years in Oregon but there really is so much to offer here.

Oh and campus just keeps getting nicer every year with more buildings going up and kids coming in this could turn into a pretty insane school.

Whats up my names Nick I'm a sophomore at Mizzou looking to finish environmental engineering at UNReno starting Fall 2016. Ive lived in MO all 20 years so im anxious to get in the mtns and find ski friends & good times; Reno seems like a good bet for these. We have a local hill here in west St. Louis with two 6-8 hit parks and a smallllll freeski community. Im not a total noob, I know on3p is cool and Salomon is corporate and Steve Stepp is currently not considered a pro because he is over looked. Todd "Guacamole" Walnuts is a pretzel salesman.

Yeah, so UNReno, go Wolf Pack.

Also Erik I fucking love your 10/11 video with the House of the Rising Sun song, so dope haha i watched that so many times.

Great access to skiing and tahoe. Solid nightlife in Reno. Parties around campus are usually meh but search around a little and you'll definitely find events with people who know how to have fun.
