University of Idaho

the entire town of Moscow will literally smell like cow shit 75% of the time. Not joking about this at all.

It is about as hick as you can possibly get

The only reason WSU kids go to Moscow is because the liqour is cheaper than in WA, and they have a Winco.

WSU will steal all your hot girls

the actual campus is really pretty

If you can go anywhere else...do it.

If you arent going there on an athletic scholarship idk why anyone would go.

Its a shit school academically, athletically, and reputation-wise.

 
Most state schools award fat scholarships to out of state students fyi...

Its also minimum 3 hours(with good roads) from any good skiing.

boise will be a much better option for you. Better town, better alumni connections, better school spirit.

like i said, there are tons of ways to get scholarships and student loans. not to mention you can always get in-state tuition after 2 years.
 
Im really not sure. I just want to go somewhere really chill, still in the west I thing, skiing a reasonable distance away, were I will have a full college experience

At this point, I think my only options are community colleges in the state/ city as other universities, then transferring once I have residency

Maybe I can do Idaho for a year, figure my shit out and transfer? but then I have to deal with out of state bull shit again.

I was sort of thinking about community college in Tahoe, then transferring to another 4 year school in cali. Do you know California's laws on getting residency?

I was thinking about doing that same thing with Boulder too

or maybe somewhere in oregon or washington
 
My reccomendation would be this:

go to a CC in California for enough time to gain residency. Absolutely crush it in the classroom during that time. California CCs make it super easy to get into the UC system(best public school system in the nation). In state still isnt cheap, but the education will be top notch. If you can get a 3.7ish at a CC(not hard) you have a great shot at getting into UCSB or UCLA. Once you see the girls, and campus you will say fuck skiing altogether.(they do have ski clubs though)

Check the residency requirements though. I went to WSU, so idk whats up witch the CA schools in that regard.
 
I should of added that Im not sure what I want to do yet, but something more in the science/math type areas as apposed to the language and arts types of degrees
 
I believe there may be a program in existence for washington citizens to pay instate tuition at UI and viceversa because were so close. Might be something to look into. If costs were the same and it was a tossup between WSU and UI, def go with WSU. Its a great education with a stellar alumni network (This summer i hungout with alums while i was living in Chicago, wsu alums really like to meet/help eachother out) Its also a real sports school in a solid conference and we actually get national attention from time to time. If your into football this season is gonna be the start of big things as we arguably just picked up one of the best coaches in the nation.
I will say this tho, if your not into sports and you just wanna ski, i would avoid both UI and WSU. the nearest mountain, MT Spokane is 1.5 hours and is pretty abysmal- backcountry and park wise. the nearest GOOD mountain schweitzer is 3 hours minimum from either pullman or moscow. if skiing is your diehard passion, then avoid. don't go to boise state. its a terrible school. it will take you 7 seven years to get a bachelors. u of i is a long ways from skiing but everything else is so much better. also there is a lot of drinking at moscow

Notes for anyone that cares:

-Parents made some wise choices and have 30K to put me through college, anything more Id need to borrow

-Would like the full college experience, get a good education and hope for the future, be in a cool location, and be less then 2.5 hours from skiing if possible

-States Im considering are Washington, Oregon, Utah, Colorado, and California

-Considering going to a Community College first to gain residence, then Transferring to the University after

-Last resort is University of Idaho or Boise State, But UofI has better programs for what I want to do

its a top 100 university, u of i is like in the 1000s and bsu is in the 600s...

anyone that talks shit about this place has not been here

they have programs that are top in the county, check google if your a non believer.
 
I do! I Do! I Do! Im a sophomore from spokane, WA. It doesnt smell like shit all the time. I love it down here. Im in a really good fraternity (beta theta pi) and its honestly a really good school. If you come here you have to go greek though. The dorms blow.
 
i said it before and i'll say it again wsu is on point for academics and networking. dont underestimate how helpful it is to have connections. When ur applying for a position where the employer is a fellow alumni....it helps a great deal during the interview process.
proximity to mountains and skiing for the next 4 years is important, but not as important as your career for the following 40 years. keep that in mind and good luck with school either way ur gonna have a blast.
 
Wsu seems alright, but seems like if I'm going to be going to school in Washington I might aswell go over to the coast like Seattle or Bellingham or somewhere really cool.

And to the guy talking about the WUE, unfortunately I did some school in Utah then dropped out (dumb! Don't do it even if you think you'll be going back in no time), and the WUE only applies to people straight out of high school

Transfer Students

  • Transfer students must have an overall GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.00 scale in all transferable coursework.
  • Community college transfer students must have an associate's degree or 60 transferable credit hours (BAS degree programs are only open to students who have an AAS or equivalent degree).
 
Total frat boy school. Pretty much if you ask almost anyone who lives in idaho what they UoI steryotype is a bunch of drunk frat boys.

Live in Idaho my whole life can tell you that the environment is just for sports, hicks, and drunk tools. There are a few smart people that go there for law and science and shit. But the cons at the school just outweigh it.

Save your money and go to decent school where the environment is a lot better if you are wanting to go somewhere in idaho try Boise or something like that. Much better environment however it gets old real quick.

As someone who has lived her for a long time, i'm looking to get away from it.
 
haha yeah so shitty. in Idaho we spend our days skiing pow while in Colorado you spend your days in lift lines

Its so much powder... Im in love.
 
this. i do to moscow once a month and i hateeeeee it. nothing but farmland for miles. i guess you could go there if you are plannning to have no distractions. but there is alot of partying. a friend of mine fell off a 3rd story building and lived to talk about it
 
WSU parties so much harder than UI. If he's gonna go to UI, he might as well just cross the border and go to WSU.

Okay so I know Moscow is shitty. at this point Im looking at alternatives.

I have family in Southern California I could live with, but thats far from any sort of skiing. I've always really liked the Seattle area and Pacific Northwest and the schools are good, but I don't know if I can afford it. Never been to Colorado, but I should Probably check it out.
 
The one thing U of I has going for it right now is that after I graduate I'd be almost debt free. But also spend what supposed to be the best years in a place I don't want to be
 
Lived in Oregon most my life. stayed there for a week at the beginning of the year know most of the Fiji house and more then just that.
 
yeah I go up here....I just had a DOPE last year that kinda broke the budget so i'm stuck in moscow for the next two years -_-

if you like drinking, 6 months of snow you cant ski on, mediocre bitches, and small towns I'd definitely recommend coming up here

and whoever said its a "big party school",,,,nah

yes people up here drink a lot up here, but its cause theres nothing else to do. dont expect insane ragers.

yeah frats'll throw down big once in a while but you've gotta have multiple connects or theres no way in fuck you're getting in
