so i just got my last acceptance and im looking for more input/info on universities in ontario. I've done the tours, been to the fairs etc. just looking for more

ive got into: laurier, carleton, u of ottawa, ryerson, mcmaster, guelph and western

All of which i got accepted for commerce/BA, a few of them with co-op.

im leaning a little towards laurier cause i heard they have an awesome program but any input on any of them would be awesome thanks!

p.s: skiing locations would be cool too

well it really depends on your interests... i know its hard to figure out what you what you "want" to do for a career, but it always helps to have a rough outline....

k first off i go to laurier for economics (which is very similar to business at our school), so i'm slightly biased... but here is the breakdown of ontario schools in my opinion (just for business/commerce programs):
laurier - great bba program, everyone is very nice in my experience, the parties are good, and the degree is very well recognized in the real world. Laurier has an excellent reputation for producing high quality students and their BBA is like the pride and joy of the school. The only drawback is that you're not garunteed co-op, you have to apply after first year but as long as you have the min 70 average (which you need to progress anyways) you're pretty much a shoe in. Also the school is smaller compared to other so you get to know people faster and you'll allways see people on campus you recognize. I'm in co op too and i highly reccomend it no matter what school you attend, it gets you jobs with awesome pay and puts you a step ahead of everyone else trying to get experience once you're out in the real world. Also laurier business lets you specialize (although most schools do i think) to choose what stream of courses and subjects you'd like to focus on after second year (eg marketing, accounting, finance, HR etc)
now the next few i have less info on obviously, but here is my general knowlege on their business programs from talking to people at my company and others i know:
carleton - good school (i have a friend that goes there for arts), however if you're gonna go to ottawa for busniness u ottawa is better from what i understand (but i would suggest looking further into that one). Carleton is also notoriously hard to transfer out of if you're ever looking to switch schools after you do a year or whatever.
u ottawa - good school. They offer all classes in both languages i think if you're into that. Strong rep and offer co-op
ryerson - i looked at their business programs when i was applying, and they are up and coming. I've talked to people that are there and they like it, i just think the school's business program gets overshadowed by york and UT. I don't know if they offer co-op either
mac - great school and they have an awesome business program from what i understand. They also offer co-op. Nothing bad i can really say.
guelph - good business program, however the focus of the school is arts and sciences. I don't know if they offer co-op either, but i've never met a co-op from guelph
western - great reputation in the business world. I went to western for the first time and its quite large compared to laurier. The Ivy business program apparently really pushes you towards I Banking, so if you're into finance and all that jazz that is probably your top pick. The regular business program is good too. I have no idea about co op at western
Hope that helps, pm me if you have more questions
good luck with the decision

Western is HUGE like so big, so if you are not into that scene than don't go there.

I have heard really good things about Guelph, lot's of people from my school go there and love it.

Ottawa is also a really good school, plus you can go across the boarder and not have to worry about being 19, (unless of course you are). They also have the best skiing out of the schools in Ontario.

i go to Ryerson and would definately suggest Ryerson if you like being right in the core of the city and close to everything. I chose this because i am definately not down with the small town scene. Ryerson is close to all skiing around airport everything you could ever want is in Toronto (in my opinion) other then that i hate guelph, Laurier isnt bad the girl seem to be pretty hot there. But western in my opinion is defintely unbeatable for their party scene. This year i have made many missions down to london to party it up. Other then that Toronto is the shit and live downtown Toronto life is also really fucking dope

This is a little late but ya, Laurier is awesome, although Western and Guelph are also really sick.

If you end up coming to Laurier make sure to join LSSC during O-Week.

Uottawa is cool, my sister goes there, appetently they have amazing profs and a sick nightlife cuz Rez at Thompson is like a minute from dowtown by foot and dowtown has absolutely everykibd of club.

The shit thing is all the sick urban rails there Are on goverment property

Oh and there is slot of homeless people there, bit my sis says they are all cool and don't bother studentds

i ended up taking the Mcmaster offer which im pretty stoked about. Was pretty tempted on the UOttawa and Carleton offer for the awesome skiing but i couldn't give in.

McMaster eh? I just graduated. Going there pretty much destroyed my ability to ski frequently. What are you taking?

wow quality post from dbchili up there.

i know guelph has a really sick scene socially (IMO) but im not too sure about their business program academically.

guelph probably stands as one of my top in-province schools to choose from next year though.

western is massive, 40 000 people or something, not really my cup of tea but you may like it.

i know it's too late, and this is a completely biased opinion, but you should have gone to guelph

100% agree,

everyone that i met that came up from other unis (Western, Mac, Laurier, Waterloo) couldn't believe how lax it was with drinking and everything.

i think it was Laurier where they could get written up for drinking in their rooms with the door open, which is such BS, Mac wasn't much better.

While the one time i actually got caught for playing beer pong in my room i had no consequences.

i could have had 2 offenses, underage drinking, and drinking games. and i should have had a behaviour bond, 2 write ups and 2 alcohol anonymous meetings, but what did i end up with? NOTHING. Because Guelph is baller !!!

late update:

i already went to guelph for a weekend. the key check rule is the only complaint i have but i went during frosh other then that, it was pretty sick.

loving mcmaster though, possibly the best choices ive ever made in life. so much stress+work but the weekends here are unreal. no writeups so far lol
