Union question

So I've been recently been working for my uncle's commercial painting company and today I was sent to a site. At the site, a Union rep talked to me and got my name. I'm not part of the Union and don't really plan to be. Whats going to happen?
 
union reps are dicks. they took your name because they are going to contact you about flipping your company union. i could go on for hours. pm with questions
 
the union wants as many companys as it can to go union so it can make more money. ie your comapny goes union, it has to pay dues and a cut off of every job. you make more money and get a pension, but there are drawbacks. when you are in the union and you get laid off, you go on a list. you have to wait your turn for work. i know plumbers who havent worked in two years, their unemployment ran out and they lost thier houses. the union forbids you to work elsewhere once you are a member, unless you denounce your status.

production. Look into the MA firefighter union scandals of the past few years, or ask Skiminnesota to give you a clue. awful, awful blights. In Worcester right now a Marine veteran who teaches the ROTC marching band program at a local highschool is on the verge of being fired because he won't join the teacher's union and pay their dues...This man has no reason to join the union...he gets all his benefits from the US Armed Forces and gets paid by the military, not the state of MA. He refuses to pay the union dues because he'd be getting nothing in return, and now the union stooges in Worcester are trying their hardest to get him fired...fucking scumbags. A 20 year Marine Veteran has already paid his dues.
 
a fun fact.

my dad pays more per month in union dues than any of the following.

-families entire cell phone plan

-cable tv, internet, home phone bill

-water, electricity

tell the union rep you are confident in your ability to negotiate your own working terms. you are also confident in your ability to do a level of work that will allow you to keep your job without their protection. just make sure you dont ever scab.... shit could literally hit the fan.

How about here in NYC, the teachers union refused to agree to a section of a bigger bill that would create more charter schools (union free but usually better performing). If this bill was passed we would of been in the running, with a very high to chance to win, for the Race To The Top program by the federal gov't. What was the prize?? $750,000,000.00 To be used for the entire education system not just charter schools.

The unions in this country are so fucking outdated. They need a major overhaul or be eliminated all together. Laborers, teachers, firefighters, teamsters....all have their pockets dipped into by someone else for what? Health insurance? A decent lawyer if you get a DWI? Give me a break!
 
I cannot put into words how much I hate unions. Without them there would be so much more productivity and more competitive rates. We wouldn't have to buy so much from China and more people would be working.
 
well if the U.S had a higher minimum wage then the unions would not be so strong. Because your minimum wage is so low it creates a much larger disincentive AND LOWERS productivity. Also there is evidence that unions can increase productivity as well.
