Unicorns, Leprechauns, Griffins, and the Calgary Ski Community

If Logan is in a park jacket, and building shit....... then it's in good hands. Logan knows what the fucks up.

Nahhh man, whenever I'm up there people are super friendly. But I usually go mornings or weekdays, when its not crowded. Pretty sure I saw you guys up there yesterday actually, I was wearing all black and hitting the west side jumps for a few hours.

a) it's always the gaper kids who go off lips of rails and hit nothing that are the loudest. Never met a kid in park that was a complete dick except for the ones that can't do anything and think they're the shit.

b) if you're learning, go to the damn progression park. I'll be a dick if I see entire families pizza-ing down the entire landing of the bigs, but I'm not gonna call a kid out for trying to progress.

c) try being a girl at cop and finding a "sense of community".

d) 403media and friends aren't dicks

well shit , How about we all have a ns meet up. Im from canmore and ive only met three NS kids. I ride with my crew because A, i trust them in the BC, and B everyone seems content just skiing with their own crew and there isn't much interaction whats so ever. Im game to have a norquay park session at night. One chair , small area and cheap .

^ I might be down for that, provided a few other people are interested.

On a somewhat related note, I'll be going to COP tomorrow some time between 11 and 3 if anyone wants to go for a few laps.

Well if you see me up there then yell at me from the chair or something haha, I'll be wearing a black jacket, black pants, black helmet and white poles/goggles.

Community/Crew skiing has been down for me lately, and it's starting to bum me out.

The only people I've really skied with this season are my friendes from Golden, and I haven't been there in a month.

With my room mate out this season for knee recovery, my trips to COP have become rare. This is kind of lousy seeing as I bought brand new park skis this season, and they've only seen so many hours on the hill...

What I want to know is, where's the touring community at? People out of Calgary mostly. I know some of you have crews you trust, and stick with them, and others are already in the mountains.

I'm looking for those weekend warriors who head out of the city on their days off and go for some walks in the woods.

i ski alone. i don't know anyone in this community, i don't have a crew or a friend who rides, but it doesn't stop me from going to the hill. just go ski man.

Why don't you come and ski with us a day or two. Park , touring, big lines , mountaineering , we do it all . Always looking for more people. Requirement , must be okay with being an idiot in public

I'm only complaining so much when it comes to having no one to ski with. I don't mind skiing alone, I love doing it actually.

I just have noticed the difference between here (Calgary) and where I'm from (Golden).

In Golden, everyone knows everyone, and everyone shares the stoke whether it's on the hill, backcountry, sidecountry, or at different resorts.

Here, it's just crews. I know people get together from time to time; it's because a lot of people know each other here.

I've brought this up in the first page I think. Plus comparing a small, tight knit ski town to a region of Alberta is pretty odd, but it shouldn't be as difficult as it's being made out to be.

And to ChasingFlakes.

I'd love to come for a tour/shred. Let me know when and where (if you can).

I thoroughly enjoy meeting new people and building this sense of "community".

If you're a week end only skier i can make the rare saturday outing to the shine, could put you in touch with some guys from calgary that drive in every weekend too. best part is.. you get to watch me get sooooper rad

@rudager (or anyone else), hit me up if you want to go for some COP laps. I've been making it up a lot the past week, nobody to ski with though. I'd be stoked to meet and shred with some fellow NSers.

i just moved down from edmonton to take a new job. havent made it out to cop yet but ive gotten alot of days in out at the mountains and a couple touring days. dont really know anyone down here that skis other than my roommate. always looking for homies to go shred with. ideally people that have their AST go out touring.

also down to get some drinks with new friends down here too.

fair enough. you just need to sack up and not give a shit. unless you're being a douche people are usually pretty decent. it's easier when you have a group too. when i first started skiing at cop i got so much hate especially being a girl. but i just ignored all the idiots and did my thing. i've met a lot of people who ski at cop now have some good friends who go regularly and i try to get out every free minute i have.

Interesting to hear what some of Calgary's/nearby area NS member's think of COP. I can definitely agree with most people, how the majority of skiers have a specific crew and stick only with it. I know a couple of awesome kids who break out of this mode, however that's just how it generally seems to be. If anybody ever wants to go lap together, PM me anytime! I'm sure to be down when I'm not busy and whatnot

Now that everybody is starting to get out and about that fall is upon us.....anybody want to get some tramp sessions going or hit up the talisman diving boards. I really suck in the air and being old doesn't help. Also I have a truck so looking at getting a crew ready to head to the mountains on a regular basis. Just let me know if your down.

Yeah, that's a definite possiblity. A few of the C O P guys I work with might be going as well. We might have a bit of a crew going. Do you know any drop in places with a foam pit?

There's altadore gymnastics by Glenmore and Barlow which is pretty sick, and they'll let you do pretty much whatever you want. 2 big tramps, and a double mini and strip tramp into a foam pit, plus a big floor area, and a black backyard tramp.

Gymtastics is by deerfoot meadows and is ok but I thought their tramps were sort of mediocre last time I was there. I'd go to altadore if I were you, I believe their drop in is $10 tuesdays and thursdays from 8-10 pm, but they'll make you pay a steep insurance fee the first time you go. Make sure you check the next time you'll have to pay the fee because its like $45 once a year, but if you pay it a week before their new season starts then you'll have to pay it again right away.
