Anyone else share my love for undergroup hiphop? For me its the best music to listen to when skiing and basically doing any other activity.

i don't know what distinguishes music as underground but seeing your list i think you'd like aesop rock and atmosphere as well....

talib kweli was on the radio back in the 90's. i believe jedi mind tricks have been on the radio before as well, you just need to listen to the right stations. i have to admit i've never heard of dilated peoples though.

 
all of those are actually mainstream hip-hop...ive heard dilated peoples on two games and on the radio although ive never heard a cannibus song anywhere but my computer
 
wait wait wait...so an artist can only be underground if they have NEVER been on radio or TV/other media? I've always thought mainstream was an artist that the majority of the population knew about. As far as I know, there are not a large amount of people that know about half the artists up there. Mos Def, Talib Kweli, and Jedi Mind Tricks are more known for sure but I would not consider them even close to mainstream.
 
Mos Def is major mainstream, he's been huge on the rap scene for a long time, he's a freestyling legend. Jedi Mind Tricks is pretty mainstream, i don't think i know a lot of people who haven't heard of Jedi. maybe you just don't know a lot of people who are into rap. Talib Kweli is mainstream but not as popular as Def or Jedi.
 
dude, i dont mind most of what you listed, but canibus alone lyrically rips holes through all of the rappers you just listed as "real real". so maybe dont go around calling things pussy shit, then list diplomats as "real real".

And for underground when I search mos def, talib kweli, dilated peoples, etc. on facebook I get like two or three people for each of them so yea, pretty underground if you ask me. The typical highschool/college student does not know of them.

all the rappers written are dope but i best advice with rap and hip hop is not look for simply "underground" or mainstream rap and hip hop. think about what you like in you music. what type of beats do you like, what kind of lyrics and flow, voice, and other aspects of the rapper? once you answer that you'll be surprise what you end up listening to and liking.
 
idk why newschoolers thinks that "underground" rap is so cool. I mean as long as its not played all the time on the radio and tv it doesnt matter if people have heard of it or not. Everybody thinks their the shit because they find mediocre bands that nobody know of.

Some of you guys have to chill out. All i tried to do was talk about underground hip-hop and name some artists i like. Those 5 or 6 i lasted arnt the ONLY artists i listen to. Just some of my favorites. And the guy with the lil wayne avatar, don't open your mouth. Lil' Wayne's lyrics are horrible, it is all random and has no depth. And i really wouldn't call any of those bands Mainstream, popularity doesn't make something mainstream, if you look at the youtube pages they only ahve like 70,000 views, Lil wayne as MUCh more then that.
 
yeah, but u almost got to have an pure hiphop channel on the radio to heare rap / hiphop on the radio.

danger mouse recorded jay z's a capella lyrics from te black album and put it over famous beatles songs from the white album. it is fucking sick as shit!
