Un-Capping hand rails

Hey guys!

Im just curious what the best way to go about un-capping hand rails is. I thought some of you might have experience with it! Let me know, that would be rad!

Thanks!

just cover it in goat semen and you wont even have to take them off, youll just slide over em!

as far as i know, there are typically 2 types of caps... screw ons and ones that are welded on.

screw-ons should be easy, just grab a drill and bring the right screw bit. you can even put them back on when you're done if you want

weld-ons would be a lot of work, think the best way to go about it would probably be an angle grinder. it would take quite a while, be loud and probably raise a lot of unwanted attention. Likely to get in serious trouble if you're caught, as this could easily be construed as doing serious damage to the rail.

never done it myself but one time the Baker skate team took some skate stoppers off with a lighter and a fork so it cant be too hard

depends what they used to cap it. cordless grinder with a cutting disk would work in most cases, some you could just leverage off with a hammer chisel or a crowbar. but it would take a pretty long time depending on how many caps n shit there is.

but fair warning, if you get caught grinding or bashing shit off with a hammer, there's a good chance you'll be charged with vandalism and might have to pay to fix whatever you damaged. gotta be pretty stealth when doing it which is tough because grinders and hammers are loud as fuck.

fucking Randy. The one time I tried it was real easy, just because the rail had like 5 and you could tell by just looking at em they wern't welded on very well, had lots of space to drive a chisel in. I was still super cautious though, left after it was done and hit it the night after, fuck getting any kind of charge.

No idea on how to get them off but if you need to use power tools set up random traffic cones or caution tap around stairs put on safety vest and construction hat no one will bother you

Hahah yes this is legit as fuck, get a friend with an F-150 or something and dress in safety vests and just put on your hazard lights on the curb. No one will bother you.

HEY WHAT ARE YOU KIDS DOING?!

"Oh we're playing dress up for a video for our school! Hope thats okay!"

I guess you have never done urban cuz mommy and daddy can pay for it. Your like totally cool bcuz u don't have to do urban

I've always though about trying to make something like this, where they're just caps you could put over the grind stoppers on rails. I'm sure most rails use fairly standard sized round tubing so having a few on hand that could fit on 3/4 of rails you might want to hit would be sweet.

The one main problem being getting a transition that won't catch an edge.

In my campus they use screw on ones. Took alot of looking but finaly found this weird bit with like two prongs on it. Put that on my screwdriver got em off hit the rail put em back on and we were out. If theor screw on the bit exists just finding them is tough

Battery powered angle grinder, you can get a zip cut disk to cut the caps off, then switch to a grinding wheel to smooth the cuts

Get a battery operated grinder and drill. Rock a bunch of bits. Some caps might have random styles like the star bits.

Or just get freeky and slide it in it's natural state.

Am I the only person that gets pissed when urban turns into fucking peoples property up? There's a metal sculpture thing at the U that hood crew (if I remember right) hit and it looks like absolute shit now that they hit it and I'm not gonna lie it pisses me off every time I walk by it. I've done my fair share of urban, but being considerate of peoples stuff has always been a consideration when picking spots.

Hand held oxy acetylene torch. And know how to use it. Cut

what ever the fuck, when ever the fuck, in complete stealth, no noise. And if you’re

good with it, you can smooth your cut lines in the metal with it, you'll never

need a grinder, but bring a hand held metal file and you're goo to go.
