Ubuntu

You know ubuntu is just linux...google it for reviews. Linux basically doesn't allow you to play any games but there are NO viruses for it, the only way to screw yourself over is to do it yourself, which is actually quite easy to go.

It sounds like you know absolutely nothing about it. You should read a book on it, get a what ever distro floats your boat (I suggest suse) and install, you can do a dual boot if you just want to mess around and keep windows in case you don't like it. but most linux users swear by it and will never go back

Just look around for a live cd of a linux distro. Burn it and see if you like it. If not, nothing's installed and if you do then install it. I've used ubuntu and knoppix and they're about the same. Ubuntu can do some pretty cool stuff but it's more of a gimmick and not a viable operating system for long term use.
