UBC Vancouver

Right now, my first choice school but I have some questions and need to do a tour. I want to study biology and environmental sciences/resource management with a possible minor in business. It seems both biology and business are strong programs at UBC. I know there are dozens of threads about it on here but those are a little dated. I know its a huge school, great skiing, great city, highly regarded, fair party scene, etc. Can anyone add any more information on it? General tips and what not. Also seems like the scholarship program is fairly killer.

How are the girls? Can schedules be made flexible? What is there to do on campus? How is the admissions process coming from the US? Anyone want to let me come check it out and crash on a couch here in April/May?

Best school out! Miss it, class of 2016. Don't even think, just go there! Great community, great events, insane skiing within 30 minutes to 2 hours in all directions.

UBC was a great 4 years for me (2010-2014). I would say that generally speaking its less of a party school than what you'll find in the states or elsewhere in canada, but it's also one of Canada's / North America's top schools so you have some seriously smart and boring students there haha. UBC Ski and Board club is a good group to join for fun weekend trips and parties. Whistler student pass is like $600 CAD so thats awesome, and if you have a vehicle or friends with a vehicle you can get up to grouse to shred their park in like 40 mins from campus. They've been doing so much construction on campus and the facilities are way damn nicer than when I was there (dorms, student building, new world class pool etc). PM me if you have any more questions!

Fuck yeah, the more I hear about it and look at it and overall think about it the more into it I am, the party scene doesn't matter a ton, I come from a place with none so as long as I can find some homies, that'd be fine and any party is a plus. Really does sound like a perfect school for me, all I have to do it tour it.

Vancouver is on my top 5 for favorite cities. It would be a great place to live. There is something happening every weekend since it is one of the most popular stops for musicians/artists. I would guarantee that you would be able to see your favorite artists at a local venue there. Oh yeah, and there is this mountain called whistler that is worth checking out

Also lots of Art Hoes if thats your thing...

Elaborate, I cant imagine that being that their science and business programs are some of the largest and strongest around.

Grouse Mt. Is literally a ski hill right in the middle of the suburbs of North Vancouver decently close to UBC, and open for night skiing. Imagine driving through a neighborhood and all of the sudden there is a fat tram going up to a ski hill... Dont leave anything in their lodge, I left my work boots under a bench, and they totally got stolen.

Also if your in downtown Vancouver, a warning about the "Downtown East side" area.. I was walking around one night, just exploring and came upon a stretch of 2 or 3 blocks with hundreds of homeless people packed shoulder to shoulder on the sidewalk openly doing hard drugs like heroin... Kind of a hard sight to see.

Yeah I mean it was shocking to say the least, nobody messed with me. I want to say it was my all denim incognito Canadian look, but I kinda doubt it.. Iwas just shocked at how dense the people were packed.. I used to live in Seattle which has a definite drug problem, but thats nowhere close.

Lmao not yet, I should have made that clear but I'm determined as hell.

Good luck!

Just realized I cant even apply since I’m not a Canadian citizen....way fuckin bummed. Any other good med schools with good skiing in the US? Washington? Utah? ....?

For undergrad...pretty sure it’s different for med school.

maybe stat wise but the idea that they would only let Canadian citizens apply to med school sounds like a joke.

Word. The first time I bussed down Hastings I saw like six dudes in a circle taking meth tokes. A bit of shock coming from Vancouver Island.
