Are any of you part of the National Guard?Do any of you know somebody in the National Guard?

I'm curious as to how it is from somebody's point of view who isn't a recruiter.

For the past few months, I've been quite interested in joining once I graduate from college.

Not only will I be serving my country, which I think is extremely awesome, but I will also receive a tuition waver for all of my post-grad studies.

It seems like a pretty incredible opportunity to me!

So do any of you have any knowledge on being a part of it?

You don't join the Guard if you want to be a "real" soldier

but for real, active duty marine corps or gtfo.

For real though if it fits your plan and helps you out I'd say go for it. Just don't go in with the mindset that you'll never deploy. Definitely be prepared for that.

a good friend of mine did it to pay for college, but he was also really gung-ho on being a soldier. he says that a lot of the people who do it are pretty lazy and unmotivated and only doing it for the benefits, so hes in the process of switching to the army.

however, the benefits they provide seem pretty killer if youre willing to put up with a bit of bureaucracy.

I've always been interested in being a part of military branch... I've just heard the National Guard is the way to go. So that's good to hear... I guess? Haha

Plus you make a decent amount of money. I just said that because I know a lot of people go into the Guard with that mindset and then end up deploying.

Just make sure its for you.

Growing up I knew about 5 kids who signed up to be in the army just for the 100 bucks the guy was offering at the mall so they could go buy a bag of week or whatever. Luckily all those kids made it home from Iraq/Afghanistan. (The ones who didn't were the truly hard core kids who quit playing sports in HS to go work out at the marine complex and stuff and were always going to be in the military so it was there passion at least.)

But if you'd enlist anyways (but aren't) go for it.

As of now, the Infantry is not yet pink[/b], just f[/i]ab[/i]u[/i]l[/i]o[/i]u[/i]s[/i]

With the current lot of politicos as the JSA, CSA, and SMA that could change by the time she is ready to join.

Females in the guard, huh. All of the ones I know have been slightly to horrendously unattractive psycho skanks who rely on the deployment goggles to make their legs slender and guts flat.

just a recipe for disaster. YMMV.

Go active, you will get STD's and build a reputation as a slut regardless, but are more likely to get to jump out of a fucking airplane (whop de fucking do) Everyone will assume you are fucking the nearest pack of male (or female, if your hair is short) e4s that make up the majority of your unit in this male dominated profession[/i]. I'm not a fan of gals in the military though. MOO, but they cause more problems then they solve. Not due to any lack of mental capability, but due to the over zealous protectionist attitude practiced by the plethora of under unemployed career officers and nco's.

Go for it, only regret is I didn't do it sooner. You will meet the most utterly worthless and most amazingly awesome people.

I always liked the medics, but the MPs generally had a little more freak in them.

a former 11b[/b]

Id say Marine Corps Grunt, but you dont have a meat rod so you cant. Looks like youll havta live the POG life. (hey at least your camies will be clean)

but, good luck with what ever you may choose, and thank you for considering the service!
