U of U

This was my dream school then I saw Salt Lake. Now I do not go there

did the Salt lake community college for geneds to U of U route. Don't listen to what everyone says, Utah is still really fun. If you want proximity to moutains and cool summer activities there isn't a much better option that I can think of.

I've personally never felt any draw to living in Utah. Just something that isnt my jam. I have a lot of friends who live/have lived there that like it. Maybe if Vail hadn't bought PC I'd have considered it. Idk

Seems fine just not my thing. I guess to a lot of other people it's a huge draw to go there.

The access to top tier skiing and snowboarding is unmatched IMO. anyone who uses salt lake city as their reason for not moving here is naive, people hear stories and come up with their own perceptions based on almost no data.

Obviously that doesn't mean you should ignore your feelings, but I get a little tilted when people shit talk a place they've never been to (not directed to you).

I'm just saying I've never felt anything pulling me to love there. Anything with Utah or SLC would be on top of that. Sure I get ir, there good skiing. There's good skiing a lot of places. Some people really like living there, some people never move to Utah.

I have friends there I swing through on every road trip. I've hit Alta a few times in the spring. Skateparks in the area are pretty fun. Idk. Not sure exactly why just never really wanted to move there.

im here rn, def a lot different than what your initial expectations are going to be, had I known what It would really be like idk if I would've chosen it, pm if you want details

lots of kids here nowadays are here solely to ski, and they know that. creates an environment where some of the better skiers act like the popular kids in middle school. Ive met a few homies but not nearly as many as i thought i would which I'm fine with as id rather have friends that are actually good people and nice instead of just shitty people. also seems to be extremely clicky, I'm not in one of these clicks and it feels awkward trying to meet people who are already in these groups as they don't seem super "inviting". def doesn't help that my major is a lot of the quieter awkward kids but this is j my experience so far. idk could also j be the adapting from hs to college phase

hmm thats interesting, my freshman year I feel like I met countless people but found a group of homies I skied with and kept building that friendship throughout the year, but i could see it being a bit different now.

Like i pulled up to the dorms and a handful of people i instantly connected with cause they were NS ppl, but there were tons of skiers/snowboarders who didnt know what ns was and they were chill too.

best part about college is there are thousands of people on campus, if someone is a douche just move on to the next person. i met so many people freshman year i never talked to again, but also some of my best friends to this day i met in the first couple years of college, could be like you said just getting used to the transition.

eheath hasn't attended the U for like 10 years now. Take it from someone who still hangs around campus, its too blown up. There's no more bus service to PC or the Cottonwoods. Unless you own a car or know a hot and spoiled freshman, its a waste of time.

idk man, might be true on a random week day, but if you're trying to ski pow days or weekends, that easy access quickly turns into 3 hours stuck in traffic, either going up, or going down.

There's places where the mountains might be twice as far, but with less congestion you still get there twice as fast, which is what really matters when talking about access imo.

The Wasatch is by far the most crowded range I've skied, and it really impacts the skiing experience imo. Even when touring, unless I'm going to the oquirrh, there's no avoiving traffic at some point.

Great snow tho, too bad it's such a hassle to get to ski it.

it certainly used to be less busy, but every "good" resort is crowded and has traffic, not much you can do about it.

yeah i was thinking this too. Its busier than tahoe by a longshot every time I've been there. Even without traffic its what 45 minutes to brighton? maybe a little shorter for the bird. Those canyons are a zoo on the weekends. Last season when I was in SLC my friends didn't believe me that we should be out the door at 6ish and we left at like 8. Didnt get to the resort till 11

Tahoe is a zoo too. but its pretty close to the same commute without traffic and on weekends I can leave my house at 7 and be in the lot at 815-830 normally.

Its got amazing access opportunities but I don't think I would call it unmatched access. There are tons of options that have more or equal access to SLC.

*all time estimates were off the top of my head and thought about from the uni, not the closest parts of the city to the canyons

Yeah there’s a lot of weirdos and posers at the u because of how close it is to the mountains. But you’ll also meet a lot of genuine people who ski and you’re sure to meet some homies.

My exact experience with the ski scene

I’m looking for a school to transfer to to get my mechanical engineering degree and was considering UofU. I’m gonna have my associates in precision manufacturing and be pretty good with cnc machining and coding. Anyone have any info on the engineering department? Totally interested in any other relevant info about other schools as well.

That's because you have terrible social skills, same probably goes for dogfart.

My guess is he's getting a degree that has a viable market instead of majoring in professional neckbearding with a concentration in lardass forum moderator

old thread bumpin but go to the U.

Like im born and raised here, am a salty crusty local pissed about the influx to skiing and the tiktokers. But you can find some of the best homies in the world here. You can start a career in skiing, or just be mellow and stoked to ski with the boys. There is always someone better than you, always some ikoner worse than you. Just accept it, love it and live chill.

There is so many cool people here, the non-mormon counter culture makes it feel like a small city.

take advice from [tag=38820]@eheath[/tag]

Small Lake City. I joke but yeah. I've met some brothers for life here.

U of U is sick, I would say if your coming out here just to ski then its probably not the best idea. I know a lot of kids who came to the U thinking that they were gonna be a known quantity in the ski scene and most of em dropped out to work shitty jobs only to get burned out on skiing in general. The ski community here is great but you definitely should have other things your interested in.

You're probably gonna meet a couple people that are pretty up their own ass about how good they are at skiing. Emmett had a bit on the 2 Planker Pod about how at the first college party he went to at the U, there was some kid screaming in the front yard that he could do rodeo 7s. Thats pretty on point.

If you have any interest in freeride stuff, definitely check out the freeride team. its a great way to meet people and go on comp trips. Might not be as much of a thing anymore since the team got banned from airBnB for fucking up a house in Targhee, but even without the trips its still a sick crew to be a part of.

bottom line...don't a wack person and you will find your group. Wearing a child labor/vexed tee and an R3 belt everywhere you go also weirdly helps

lmao UNR freeride did the same thing at targhee. A fucking pipe burst in their shitter and it leaked down the walls. Airbnb said it was our fault and banned my co captain.

That and the vomit in the backyard snowbank

lmao sounds about right. I didn't end up going to targhee on that trip but from what I heard the DU kids showed up and started throwing eggs everywhere. seems like all the egg yolk stuck to the ceilings was the main issue. also maybe a broken window or something? can't remember but sounded like a fuckin blast

man fuck them kids, U of U freeride crew goes hard. I've met a fair few of them at the bird. Total beasts on 2 planks
