Two different bindings on one ski

So i bought an old pair of look pivot jib bindings on ebay and they were in pretty good shape except one heel piece was bent where the brake connects, so my shop wouldnt mount them. due to my lack of finances i foolishly had another shop mount another pair of used axial bindings on my skis. it was foolish because one of the heelpieces had no pressure in the spring but i said fuck it mount them anyway. so what happened was two days into the season the fucking thing rips out of my ski, and im thinking it was definitely a result of having no pressure and releasing incorrectly.

either way heres my question and ill try to make a long story short. can i use the good pivot jib heel piece with the axial toe piece and just have a ghetto as fuck setup? i feel like they are pretty similar bindings and it wouldnt make too much of a difference.

thanks

They are virtually the same as far as I know, just rebranded by look and rossi. Same thing with the FKS and pivot series, they are the same binding just sold by different brands, and I know people have done that combo before. You should be fine..

nah im talking about the look pivot jib which has the heel piece that kind of swivels, combo-d with the newer axial (the version before the one sold now which is basically the same as the one sold now)

As a shop tech I have this to say:

Bindings are designed as integrated systems. It is never safe to mix and match. Never.

Agreed with the others. I have seen Frankenpivots work well (as in FKS 15 toes with 18 heels), but I would not recommend it to anybody.

alright thanks guys. i got another pair of skis i can use till i get some real bindings. im not gonna take any chances

Year to year little things can change on a binding. Say they make the plastic base on the binding 1 or 2mm thicker in order to beef it up. So if you put that new taller piece with the older shorter piece you have taken what has been designed as a flat plane that you release across into a crooked plane. Once you change that you get more unpredictable release. Hope that helps.

more importantly a shop will never ever ever mount those for you.

On a side note, I rode a season with 1 181 pipe cleaner with deadbolt 15 and a 182 OG phil larose with og 14 pivot. good times

West MTN ftw!
