Turf Toe anyone?

I was a fucking idiot and jumped off a pier to sand, ended up slipping and landing with all my weight on my big toe. hyperextended it, ending up with turf toe. at the time i didnt think much of it, just that it was swollen and sprained.

3 months later its way better but still really painful to wear certain shoes, can't put on a climbing shoe for shit, anything that squeezes the foot kills.

Saw a doctor, told me there is nothing I can do really, wondering if anyone has experienced turf toe and how did you fix it?

+K for helping me

Amputation is 100% guaranteed to solve the problem of that toe hurting/getting in the way. I'd say your doctor must be pretty stupid to say there is nothing you can do. Prove him wrong!

Sometimes with free health care you get what you pay for.

try 2 wks in a full length boot, icing a couple times a day. Obviously not ideal to wear that damn thing during the summer, but you gotta let those ligaments rest, and at least the boot will still allow you to walk.

Its been about 3 months and I have full range of motion now. no swelling but it just hurts to wear tight shoes and I want to get back to climbing as soon as possible. I'm thinking its too late for immobilization and now i need to build up strength? but i have no idea. maybe ill just wear my ski boot for a few weeks

yah man I dunno. I would recommend the boot for a bit - every case of turf toe I have dealt with involved a boot or other bracing (ATC for 4 years, 1st yr SPT). Considering the muscle belly of the flex hall is up in the calf, I doubt there was damage to the contractile portion, so strength may not be affected? Maybe you could do with just a rigid orthotic? Good luck to you homie!
