Tuning

I have been skiing for about 5 years and I just got some twin tips. I was wondering where I could find out how to tune and wax them myself. Thanks for the replies!

what replies?

this can't really be explained. just go by your local hill and ask one of the rental shop guys if you can watch him tune a few pairs of skis

first off you need an iorn, it doesnt need to be a waxing iorn or anything like that, just an old iorn. get the right wax for the conditions from any shop. take the wax and hold it to the iorn and drip it down the ski. then put the iorn on the base and make a circle patern down the ski spreading the wax aroudn...but DONT leave the iorn in one spot for to long. do the other ski and let them both cool. scrape the wax off using a scraper that you can pick up at any shop. after that get a scotch brite pad and rub the wax in.

i know this isnt a great description, it would be better if you had someone show you, plus there are a ton of different techniques, this is teh fastest way ive found. if you are going to learn edges i would have someon show you. hope this helps a little

i left out some stuff. dont have the iorn too hot. you just want it hot enough to melt the wax. get some wax remover and take off any wax that is already on there before you put a new coat on.

Also a you shouldnt use an iorn that has steam holes in the bottom of it. When the wax gets in them sometimes the iorn can catch on fire, its not good. You can buy a sharpener for under $30 that can put a pretty good edge on ure skis, and its not hard at all.

if you're lookin for a cheap iron, check garage sales and thrift stores
