Im curious how many NSer's have hiked and skied the glacier

--Time of year

--What line you rode

--Approx time it took to hike

--Gear used

last week of april

climbed up far left, skied down middle left

2.5 hrs to hike up to teh bowl

almost an hour to the very top of the bowl

i dont really know what you mean by gear used but i started the hike in gym shorts with all of my ski shit on my back and by the time we got to the bowl it was definitely time to put snowpants and a jacket on as it was sunny but windy and about 35.

climbed the bowl with skis mounted on my backpack and rode down on old chronics.

i hiked up left chute and skied down it a couple years ago. i did it in april when all the other resorts were closed. took about 3 hours to get to the top of the bowl. I hiked in hiking boots until the bottom of the bowl then switched it too my ski boots. shouldered my skis all the way up, which were a pair of volkl walls i had laying around.

just go for it. easy hike, fun shredding, and rad people in the spring.

You say it's not your first rodeo and yet you ask people what "gear" they use to ski Tuck's... hahaha you sure it's not your first rodeo, bud?

Why do you always put that thing about rodeos in your thread titles

I hope to go up for the first time this year, my parents said they used to let you camp up there in the 70's, but now you have to rent a platform for it.

Any time in April a good time to go, in May you probably won't get to ski the headwall because of crevasses, any time before St Patricks day you run the risk of avy's.

Can you skin up it with AT? It's always looked to me like people just hike up the gut. Tuckerman's has always been on my bucket list.

April or maybe early may? I forget it was some time around then when I was 8. I hiked up like 3/4 of it and went down.

I have yet to do it, but I'd say mid to late april. Every year I hear reports of avalanches all the way up to may. Post a vid when you go!

last year march 18 (because of lack of snow, we went early)

I did the left gully and the chute because it was my first time, and the headwall and icefalls had very dangerous ice falls, so the ski patrol wasn't even letting people go on the lunch rocks

it took 2 1/2 hours to get to hojo's (I could have done it in less, but I was with my dad, so I had to wait for him for about a 1/2 hour. The hike to the ravine takes about 20-30 min depending on conditions and crowds

I just went in my winter hiking boots, saga pants, osprey skiing back pack. I didn't skin up. If you arn't gonna skin, definitally bring cramp ons. I just changed into my booters when I got up there, and hiking up in those.

For me, my first time was when I was 12 or 13, it really wasn't as hard as I thought. Even thought I did some of the easier ones, it really wasn't bad at all.

Good luck man!

depends on the year. Doubt it will be good this year, but my dad said that when he first did it in college, he and his buddies did it on momorial day weekend, so there must have been a ton of snow that year.

-Op, if you do go, I would suggest going on a weekday so it is less crowded, unless of course you want to really experience the whole thing with all the people. Just remember that there can be a shit ton of people up there on saturdays during April, so think ahead!

Usually do it 7 or 8 times a year, probably done it 20 or 25 in total by now. Skiied every line in there and off the summit and dropped almost every cliff in all times of year. As early as October 12th and as late as July 5th. You can skin up or hike up depending upon how far down the snow goes. Usually takes us about 2 hours to get to the bowl and 45 minutes up the bowl or an hour and a half to the summit.

It's a shit ton fun for sure but theres a lot of people in there who are over their head and shouldnt be there. Some of the gnarliest skiing on the east coast but definately worth the hike.

PM me if anyone has any questions, i can tell you everything you need to know

u aint rippin tux anytime of the year unless you are on blades and rear entrys.

I've hiked it in the summer.

I can't wait to go ski it though. It's sort of like a fairytale land for my family, as fruity as that sounds. I plan to do something over on lion's head for my first line

Done it 4 times. Skinned up Pinkham Notch Trail 3x and hiked it once. Always bootpacked up the bowl, obviously. I've been able to ski down the Sherburne trail to the lot on the days I could skin up.

you wouldnt be able to skin up the bowl, it gets far too steep. towards the top its like climbing a ladder

i was planning to ski it last april with my dad but we couldnt go because there was a storm, im curious about where the best lines are, small drops, i am aware that there are several parts and there is even a chute if im mistaken?

are there any videos of people skiing it in winter?? or is the avy danger just too high to bother that time of year

So many of op's threads consist him of asking questions about stuff too... I dont think hes been to a single rodeo
